Kaveri stirred awake slowly, her body sinking into the soft mattress beneath her. The first thing she noticed was the warmth—warmth that wasn't hers.

She didn't know what was worse—the fact that she was completely bare under the blanket, or the fact that she didn't feel bare at all because Vijay's warm body was wrapped so tightly around her, front to front. His strong arms encircled her waist, holding her so close that she could feel the slow rise and fall of his chest against hers, their skin pressed together as if her body was made to fit against his.

It felt like her body had melted into his, and she couldn't tell where she ended and where he began.

Kaveri was suddenly hyperaware of everything- the way his legs tangled with hers, his thigh nestling against hers. She was squashed in the most intimate way possible, her head tucked under his chin, his breath lightly stirring her hair as his heartbeat pulsed steadily beneath her fingers where her hand rested on his chest.

Her breath caught in her throat as she tilted her head up, just enough to look at him. How does he look so innocent, so peaceful, after doing all those... unspeakable things last night?

Last night.

She squeezed her eyes shut, her mind reeling with flashes of the night before, sending a new rush of heat all through her. He had kissed her, touched her, claimed every part of her, leaving her gasping, trembling, wanting more. They had crossed a line—no, obliterated it. There was no line anymore.

And now, here she was, lying in his arms, the afterglow of everything that had happened still clinging to her skin like a warm, intoxicating haze.

She could still feel the way his hands had traced her. She could still hear the way he had murmured her name like a promise...it had left something in her changed, as if a switch had been flipped. It's like something in her had permanently shifted. How do humans return to normal after this? What was 'normal' even supposed to be?

How can Kaveri ever look him in the eye and not think about the way his lips had worshiped every inch of her?

A surge of panic rose in her chest. She had to get out of this bed—out of his arms—like immediately, before he woke up. God, what if he saw her like this?

She found herself rolling her eyes at the irony of her fear. Really, Kaveri? As if there's anything left to hide. He'd seen all of her last night... in every possible way.

Carefully, she began to unwrap herself from him, moving inch by inch, trying not to wake him. He mumbled something in his sleep, and her heart almost burst out. But after a second, his hold relaxed, finally allowing her the chance to escape.

Of course, her traitorous body immediately missed the warmth, craving his arms again. Shameless, just like her thoughts. But she dashed into the bathroom as fast as she could without looking back.

Even the shower didn't help much. She just closed her eyes and stood under the gushing cold water, reliving his touch and the ghost of his kisses.

It's like he had imprinted himself on her body permanently and no amount of water could wash away the traces he had left behind.

By the time she was standing in front of the closet, wrapped in nothing but a deep red saree and a towel loosely around her damp hair, her pulse was still not normal yet.
