Eve.
'We can't do that you know this!' Marcus whispered angrily. 'You could mess this all up for us!'
'Quiet!' Marcy frowned as she dropped her bags by the wall. 'Want everyone in a five mile radius to hear you?'
I swallowed as I stared at her.
We had already gathered out successfully, sneaking through the kitchen door to the walls behind the mini forest, bags in hand. My heart was beating loudly in my chest.
We were so close to getting away.
I stared at the tall grey walls.
So close.
'Stop changing the subject Marcy!' Marcus stressed, his brows drawn. 'We can't bring him! It's impossible!'
'But what if we can!' Marcy walked up to him, her eyes sharp. 'Clark is so important right now! With him we have evidence!' She waved to the house far ahead. In the darkness it seemed to loom in an almost domineering manner. 'Actual. Evidence!' Her hair bounced as she gesticulated.
'And how would he get here?' Marcus ran a hand through his head. 'He's been bed ridden for years Marcy! Years!'
'That's what we were told.' Marcy suddenly turned to Tim, grabbing his arms in desperation. 'If they were successful doesn't that mean he can walk? What's the point of success if he can't do a basic thing!'
'Marcy..' Tim stared at her, his mouth parted slightly. 'You haven't considered uncle Toby being there, or someone else.'
' They'll eventually have to rest!' Marcy groaned. 'It's almost midnight! You think they're still there?'
'I don't think that's particularly wise.' August leaned against a tree as he watched us. 'You could jeopardize the whole plan to escape.'
'If I don't get him.' Marcy stared at him in defiance.
Marcus groaned, turning to a tree in frustration.
'I-I'll go with her.'
Everyone turned to me in shock.
'It'll be safer if someone can look out.' I dropped my bags next to hers. 'Besides I-'
'No way!' August's words were sharp, cutting me off.
Marcus let out a breath in exasperation. 'What about our discussion a day ago?' He turned to the others. 'No one seemed to have much to say when we decided we couldn't take Clark then?'
'Wouldn't.' Marcy's glare was obvious.
'Couldn't.' Marcus stared back just as hard.
'Whatever decision needs to be made should be made quickly because we're a few hours till morning.' Joanne spoke suddenly, adjusting the bag she held. 'And if you're not tired of standing here carrying bags, I am!'
'I'll come too.' Stella perked.
'What?' Marcus nearly gasped at the blonde, eyes wide. 'Why don't we all file up and go then?' He turned to us, irritation in his tone. 'Like a freaking team!'
'Marcus.' Tim sighed. 'Let them try, Marcy is actually right and Clark-' his breath caught in his throat. 'Clark has suffered too much, for too long.'
'Is it going to be safe?' Diane said slowly as Marcus made no response. 'I want to save Clark as much as you guys do but we can't really risk this chance we have.' She turned to Marcy, hazel eyes worried. 'Remember Marcus will be taken to who knows where tomorrow, this is our only chance.'
