Chapter 3: Echoes of Unsaid
-Caleb's POV-
It's already 10 p.m., and we've just landed in the Philippines after a grueling flight from a high-stakes business meeting in New York, with Ion accompanying me.We went to oversee our dad's partnership and finalize their strategic expansion plans. He has given us a chance to prove ourselves and decide who will inherit the company. But deep down, I know it's Ion. I can sense it from the subtle hints he's been dropping. Maybe it's because I'm not particularly skilled at handling the complexities of business, despite my relentless efforts.
In academics, However, I excel. As a top student at St. Paul University (Senior High School), my primary focus is on achieving high grades rather than getting too involved in my dad's businesses, whether in the Philippines or abroad. I have a strong passion for architecture and plan to pursue it in college, as business has never truly interested me.
My phone rang, interrupting my thoughts. It was Dad.
"Caleb, how did the business trip go?"
I blinked for a moment, snapping back to reality.
"Oh, right. Sorry, I was a little distracted. It went well. We covered the expansion plans and discussed the budget."
"That's good. How about our business partners?"
"Everything went well, dad." assuring him the plans were already decided on both sides.
"Where's Ion?" He asked, changing the topic.
"He's already asleep."
"Good. You should get some rest too. Don't forget, you still have school tomorrow."
"Wait, school? Tomorrow? But we just got back!"
"Yes, I know. But you've always been good at juggling everything. Get some sleep now, we'll talk later."
And just like that, he hung up.
School at 7 a.m.? After such a long flight, I could barely process it. Tomorrow's just another day to power through, but this past week has been exhausting.
The next morning
6:00 a.m.--the alarm blared.
The piercing sound dragged me out of bed. Still groggy, I forced myself into action. I had a quick breakfast, took a shower, and dressed for school.
I head downstairs and noticed our driver, Manong Ben, already waiting by the car.
"Good morning, Sir" he greeted politely.
I gave a nod and smiled. "Good morning, Ben" I replied as I slid into the car, preparing myself for another long day ahead.
We arrived, and the first thing I saw was her.
