Genevieve stepped into the police station, the atmosphere heavy with tension. The fluorescent lights hummed overhead as she approached the front desk, her heart racing. She was here for one reason only: to see Nicholas.

"Can I help you?" the officer asked, barely glancing up.

"I need to see Detective Blackwood," she replied, her voice steady.

A moment later, Blackwood emerged, his demeanor serious. "Genevieve," he acknowledged. "What do you need?"

"I want to go see him." she said, the urgency in her tone cutting through the air. "Alone."

Blackwood's brows furrowed. "You realize he's a killer, right? Given the circumstances, that's a risky move."

"I know what he is," she shot back, her resolve unwavering. "But I need to speak to him. I can't keep pretending I'm fine."

Caldwell joined them, skepticism etched on her face. "And you think he'll be honest with you? You're putting yourself in a dangerous position."

"I'm aware," Genevieve snapped, frustration bubbling beneath her calm exterior. "But I have to do this. Just let me talk to him."

After a long pause, Blackwood glanced at Caldwell. "You sure you don't want me to go with you? This could get complicated."

"No. I want to go see him. Alone." The finality in her voice brooked no argument.

Blackwood sighed, relenting. "Fine. But I'll be right outside. Five minutes."

He led her down a narrow, dimly lit corridor, the oppressive silence amplifying her racing thoughts. Each step felt heavy with the weight of her knowledge. She had to face Nicholas and confront the truth.

At the end of the corridor, Blackwood halted before a heavy steel door. "Remember, Genevieve. This isn't a game."

"I understand," she replied, her tone flat.

With a nod, he opened the door, revealing Nicholas sitting on the edge of the cot, looking both surprised and wary as he met her gaze.

"Oh, what a nice surprise." he said, a forced smile flickering on his lips.
