Sophie slammed her locker door shut only to find Keefe leaning against the lockers on the other side.
"Heyyy Foster," he grinned. "How's my favorite Telepath?"
"Dude," Fitz elbowed Keefe playfully as he passed them in the hallway. "I thought we were best friends!"
"Sorry bro," Keefe called after him, "but Sophie's desperately in love with me, so I have no choice." She groaned inwardly. Already she could feel the glares of a dozen girls on her back.
Sophie caught Fitz's gleaming white grin as he walked by, still snickering. She crossed her arms and turned back to Keefe. "What do you want now?" she sighed, trying to distract herself from the heat rising in her face.
He ran a hand through his disheveled blonde hair. "Do you happen to have the—"
"No Keefe, I won't give you my Elementalism homework."
"But Fosterrr—"
"No, Keefe." Sophie began to walk away, shifting the books in her arms.
Keefe caught up to her easily, despite her attempt to speed-walk away. Damn his long legs. "Sophie. Pleeease." His blue eyes were pleading.
Sophie rolled her eyes. "And what would I get out of it?"
That seemed to stump him. "Uh. Well. How about..." the Empath pursed his lips. "Wait! I got it!" He snapped his fingers.
Sophie glanced around her. The halls were emptying slowly as prodigies made their way to lessons. "And?"
Keefe smirked. "I'll take you on a date if you let me copy—borrow your homework."
Sophie laughed. "Keefe, you're ridiculous. That seems like there's more in it for you."
"What, you don't like me as much?" he pouted mockingly, but some of the confident gleam in his eyes wavered.
She stammered, blushing. "No no, I do like you, but—just—well. Oh, fine," Sophie gave in as he pumped his fists in the air.
"It's a date, Foster! And this time it really is." He winked and turned on his heel to head back to the Level Five's hallways.
"Uh, Keefe!" Sophie called after him. "You forgot something." She waved her paper at him.
Keefe turned. "Oops." He grabbed it and started walking again, before changing his mind within the same second and swooping down to kiss her on the cheek. "Thanks, Foster."
Sophie turned bright red with surprise and could only stare at him incredulously as he grinned and sped back down the corridor.
