In my room by Chance Peña
~~~
Present: Age 22The smell of sea salt fills the air as the wind whips across the dock. I squint against the glare of the sun, shading my eyes with one hand while Armin, Connie, Hitch, and I wait in silence. The ship carrying our new guests pulls in closer, the deep rumble of its horn signaling that it has fully docked.
I take a deep, ragged breath, trying to steady the nerves that are building inside of me.
The first person steps off the ship—a tall, lanky figure with blonde hair. Behind them, a man with dark skin follows. I let out a small gasp, his height and presence are shocking. It's the first time I've seen someone with features even remotely resembling mine. He's taller, darker, but there's an unspoken connection there—a reminder that we might share the same roots, long lost to time.
"Welcome to Paradis." Armin greets them, extending his hand.
The blonde one speaks first, shaking Armin's hand. "Thank you for having us. I am Yelena, and this is Onyankopon."
Her voice surprises me—she's a woman, I couldn't tell.
"I'm Blair." I say, stepping forward to shake both of their hands. "I'll be leading you to the horses. Right this way." I turn around, taking the lead away from the port and their footsteps follow behind. We walk in silence as I lead them down the long grassy path to our temporary setup.
I stop in front of our makeshift table, which is lined up with refreshments. "Would you like some water or bread?"
They both nod, thanking me as I hand them each a cup of water and a small loaf of bread.
"As soon as the rest of the group disembarks, we'll head to the carriages." I begin explaining, but I'm interrupted.
"Blair!"
I turn, frowning as Hitch comes sprinting toward us, breathless.
"Hitch what are you doing? Stick to your area!" I shout.
"But Armin and Connie said—."
I raise my hand, cutting her off. "Hitch, you know how important it is for us to stay in formation!"
"But—"
"Go back please." I turn back to Onyankopon and Yelena.
"Blair!"
I groan, rolling my eyes. "What now!?"
I turn to see a man running down the path towards me. All I can make out is light blonde hair. I squint trying to make out his facial features.
Connie and Armin come running with two others following closely behind them. "Reiner, wait!" Connie yells.
I freeze. Reiner.
I can see him clearly now; his voice is deeper. He's taller, more muscular, with stubble lining his face. But he still looks the same; it's him. The beautiful traitor himself.
