The morning light barely pierced the thick clouds as Emii walked the familiar path toward Dennis's apartment. Her footsteps felt heavier with each step, as if the weight of the conversation she was about to have was pressing down on her, making it hard to breathe. She wasn't sure how Dennis would react, or how deep the secrets ran, but one thing was certain: she couldn't ignore the danger any longer.

Her phone buzzed in her pocket, startling her out of her thoughts. She fished it out quickly, her heart skipping a beat when she saw Dennis's name flash across the screen. The message was brief.

*Be careful today. Call me when you're close.*

A wave of unease washed over her. Dennis was always protective, but something about the tone of this message felt different—like he was anticipating something. Her pulse quickened as she stuffed the phone back into her pocket, quickening her pace.

She had been trying to prepare herself mentally for this conversation all night, running through every possible scenario in her head. Would Dennis be honest with her? Would he finally tell her the full extent of what he was involved in? Or would he lie, as he had done before, to shield her from the truth?

Either way, Emii knew she had to press him. There was no room for half-truths anymore.

As she reached the apartment complex, her phone buzzed again. This time, it was an unknown number. She stared at the screen for a moment, her stomach twisting with dread. Could it be Mick again? Or worse, one of Dennis's enemies?

She hesitated before answering. "Hello?"

A deep, unfamiliar voice responded, sending a shiver down her spine. "You need to stop digging, Emii. Before it's too late."

Her blood ran cold. "Who is this?" she demanded, though she already had a sinking feeling she knew.

The voice chuckled darkly, the sound chilling in its casual menace. "Consider this a warning. Stay away from Dennis. If you don't, we won't be so nice next time."

The line went dead, leaving Emii standing frozen in place, the phone still pressed to her ear. Her heart pounded in her chest as the reality of the situation hit her like a freight train. They were watching her. They knew she was getting close, and they were willing to hurt her to keep her quiet.

Suddenly, Dennis's cryptic message made sense. He knew something was coming. And now, so did she.

Her hands trembled as she slipped her phone back into her pocket. Panic surged through her, her thoughts spinning in a million different directions. She should turn back, leave before it was too late. But no. She couldn't. Not now.

She had to confront Dennis, had to know the truth, even if it meant walking straight into the storm.

Emii reached Dennis's apartment and knocked on the door, her heart hammering in her chest. The seconds stretched out painfully long as she waited for him to answer. Finally, the door swung open, and there he stood.

Dennis's face lit up when he saw her, his arms immediately wrapping around her in a tight hug. But there was a tension in his posture, a strain behind his usual confident smile. "Babe, I'm glad you're here," he murmured into her hair, his voice soft yet edged with concern.

Emii stepped back, her eyes searching his face. "Dennis, we need to talk."

The warmth in his expression flickered, replaced by a shadow of unease. "I know." He gestured for her to come inside. "Let's sit down."
