Emii awoke to a piercing sound cutting through the silence of her apartment—a sharp, metallic clang that sent a jolt of fear through her. She sat up, her heart pounding as she strained to hear, her eyes darting around the shadowed room. She reached for her phone, checking the time. It was 2:13 a.m., far too late for anything normal.

Dennis had left only an hour earlier, promising he'd check in as soon as he got home. She hadn't wanted him to leave, not after the unsettling confrontation with Jax, but he'd insisted on handling a few things he hadn't been able to ignore. She reassured herself he'd be back soon, but now, as she sat alone in the dark, doubt crept in.

The noise sounded again, louder this time, coming from somewhere near the front of her apartment. Her pulse raced, each beat echoing in her ears as she threw on a hoodie and moved cautiously down the hall. She took slow, deliberate steps, the shadows stretching across the floor as her mind raced with possibilities—someone might've broken in, or maybe it was just her imagination. She reached the end of the hall, peeking around the corner into her living room.

A figure was standing by the window, a dark silhouette against the faint city lights filtering through the blinds. Emii stifled a gasp, her back pressing into the wall as she took a shaky breath. Her mind screamed at her to run, but her feet felt cemented to the floor. Whoever this was, they'd slipped into her home without a sound, and if they'd seen her... there was no telling what they might do.

Suddenly, the figure turned, and the shadows fell away to reveal a face she recognized immediately—Jax. His gaze locked onto hers, a twisted smile creeping across his lips. He didn't belong here; he was an intruder in every sense of the word, and the terror that washed over Emii was suffocating.

"Don't look so surprised," he said, his tone smooth and mocking. "Did you think I'd let Dennis get away with his little defiance?"

Emii's voice was trapped in her throat, her mind scrambling for some way out of this. "You.. you need to leave. Now." she managed, her voice steadier than she felt. "If Dennis finds out.."

"Dennis?" Jax cut her off with a laugh, moving a step closer. "Oh, Dennis doesn't scare me, Emii. He's forgotten his place, and you're the reason for it. You're his weak link, and it's about time he realizes that weaknesses need to be... eliminated."

She flinched, pressing herself against the wall as he took another step forward. The calm, measured tone in his voice terrified her more than any threats he could've made. Jax wasn't trying to scare her; he was here to prove a point, a twisted message to Dennis.

"You know," Jax continued, inspecting the room around him with casual disinterest, "you don't belong in this world. You're soft, easy to break. A liability Dennis can't afford."

Emii's fists clenched, her fear twisting into a fierce surge of anger. "You don't know me. I'm not going to let you intimidate me."

Jax's smile widened, a chilling gleam in his eyes. "Oh, sweetheart, it's not intimidation. It's a lesson. You want to survive with Dennis? Then maybe it's time you learn the rules." He reached into his pocket, pulling out a sleek silver blade, the edge gleaming in the dim light.

Emii's breath hitched, her mind racing as she fought to think clearly. She needed to get out, to find her phone, to alert someone—anyone. Her gaze flicked to the door, but Jax noticed, his smirk widening.

"Running won't help you now, don't be stupid, stop thinking so much" he taunted, his voice soft but chilling. "Let's just have a little chat, shall we? I promise not to hurt you... much."

A sudden sound shattered the silence—a pounding on the door. Emii's heart leaped as she recognized Dennis's voice shouting from the other side. "Emii! Are you in there? Open the door!"

Relief flooded her, and she bolted toward the door, but Jax moved quickly, grabbing her wrist in an iron grip. His fingers dug into her skin, a sinister warning as he yanked her back, his face inches from hers.

"Looks like your knight in shining armor has arrived," he sneered, tightening his hold on her. "But don't think for a second that he can save you. You're both in over your heads."

The door burst open, and Dennis stormed in, his eyes flashing with a dangerous intensity as he took in the scene. Without a word, he charged at Jax, shoving him back and placing himself between them. Emii stumbled back, clutching her wrist, her heart racing as Dennis confronted Jax.

"Touch her again, and I swear you'll regret it," Dennis growled, his voice low and lethal.

Jax's smile faltered, but only for a moment. He recovered quickly, straightening his jacket with a casual smirk. "Protective, aren't we? That's going to be your downfall, Dennis. Weakness makes you vulnerable."

Dennis took a step forward, his fists clenched. "Get the hell out. And if you ever come near her again, I'll make sure it's the last thing you do."

For a moment, a tense silence hung in the air, neither man backing down. Then, with a mocking shrug, Jax lifted his hands in surrender, his gaze shifting to Emii one last time, his eyes gleaming with a sinister promise. "This isn't over, Emii. You're part of this now, whether you like it or not."

With that, he turned and sauntered out, his presence lingering like a dark shadow even after he'd gone.

As soon as the door closed, Dennis rushed to his girlfriend, his hands gentle as he checked her over. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"

She nodded, her breathing still uneven, but she reached out, gripping his hand tightly, seeking comfort in his presence. "I'm okay. Just... shaken."

Dennis pulled her into a tight embrace, his voice barely a whisper as he held her close. "I'm so sorry, baby. This is all because of me. I never wanted you to be part of this nightmare."

She pulled back, looking up at him with fierce determination. "We're in this together. But we need to find a way out of this. I can't keep living in fear."

He nodded, a grim resolve hardening in his gaze. "I'll protect you. I don't care what it takes, or who I have to go through. Jax won't get away with this."

They sat in silence for a while, holding each other as they processed the terrifying reality they were now facing. Emii knew this was just the beginning—that Jax would stop at nothing to keep them under his control. But as long as she had Dennis by her side, she felt a glimmer of hope, a belief that somehow, they'd find a way to escape the shadows that threatened to consume them.
