On a stormy night, with the wind howling fiercely and thunder bellowing, raindrops plummeted with force. The window shutters, left open, banged against the wall. A man approached, flashlight in hand. He secured one shutter, setting his flashlight down to free his hands, but then his gaze caught a figure lying on the shore's rocks. Snatching up his flashlight, he cast its beam on the still form, then hurried towards the shore with caution.
Jules Verne once wrote, "Put two ships in the open sea, without wind or tide, they will come together."
Approaching, the man discerned a woman's figure lying on the rocks. He advanced cautiously, setting his flashlight down to approach her. The woman was striking, with blonde hair and fair skin, adorned in a stunning white suit with a scale-like pattern, gripping a silver trident in her hand. A large gash marred her ribs. With care, the man lifted her and carried her to his home.
That's how my parents met. Like two ships destined for each other.
The man burst through the door of his house and quickly laid her on the table, just as the power failed. The woman began to regain consciousness and started vomiting water; she coughed and gasped for air, her eyes still shut. "It's okay," the man soothed. Her eyes fluttered open and fixed on the man, widening in shock.
The man smiled but in return the woman's hand shot out and grabbed the man's neck, chocking him. She then sat up while pushing him back so she could stand up and push him against the wall. She lifted the man into the air, causing his feet to dangle. She then held her trident to his face, one of its sharp tips were to his neck, "easy. You weren't breathing," the man croaked out as he raised on of his hands in surrender.
The power returned, causing the lights and TV to flicker back to life. The noise from the TV drew the woman's attention away from the man, prompting her to release him. Trident in hand, she advanced a few steps toward the TV before hurling the trident at it, destroying it upon impact. The dog that was laying on the couch whimpered before it got up from the sofa and ran away. The woman slowly raised her hand towards her wound and started to stagger a little bit before she fainted.
They were from different worlds. But life, like the sea, has a way of bringing people together.
The woman lay asleep on the couch, covered by a blanket. As she opened her eyes, the first sight that greeted her was the dog sitting across from her on another couch. They made eye contact, and both stirred slightly; the dog's movement prompted the woman to sit up. She glanced around the house, then down at her wound, only to discover it had healed. She ran her fingers over the blanket and pillow's texture before her gaze settled on the goldfish tank. Crawling towards it, she reached into the water, caught a fish, and placed it in her mouth.
"Uh..." the man was standing not far from her, holding two cups in his hands, "I was gonna make you some eggs. Just don't eat my dog, okay?" he said and the dog in question whimpered before jumping of the couch and left. The man approached the couch which the dog was sitting on, but the woman crawled away from him, "it's okay. I made tea," he said as he sat on the couch next to her and started to blow on the tea, which caught the woman's attention, "go on, try it. It'll make you better," he said as he handed her the cup. The woman took the cup in her hand and started to blow on hers too, the man then took a sip of his tea which caused the woman to do so too, she took a moment to process the flavor, but she then smiled at the man, "so, uh, who are you?"
"Atlanna. Queen of Atlantis," queen Atlanna hesitantly said.
"Wow," the man said as he looked at her, "I'm Tom. Keeper of lighthouse," he said as he placed a hand on his chest and smiled. Atlanna smiled and the two continued to drink the tea while looking at each other.
