*September 9th, 2028*
The soft afternoon sun filtered through the tall windows of Rachel Ly's bedroom as she lay on her bed, idly scrolling through her phone. She sighed, her mind wandering to the idea that had been occupying her thoughts since primary school - having a guy best friend. It wasn't like she didn't have friends. Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo, and Lisa were amazing, and their bond was strong. They called her "Rachy" and were always there for her, but something was missing.

Rachel always wondered what it would be like to have a male bestie. Every time she brought it up, Lisa would roll her eyes and say, "Rachy, trust me. Guys and girls can't just be friends. Sooner or later, the guy's gonna catch feelings. It's inevitable." Lisa's words echoed in her head.

But Rachel wasn't convinced. *Why couldn't guys and girls just be friends?* she thought, determined to prove that it was possible. And with university coming up next year, she saw her chance. *That's where I'll finally have my guy best friend,* she told herself.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a buzzing sound. It was a text from Rosé.
Rosé: *Rachy, are we still going shopping tomorrow?*
Rachel smiled and replied.
Rachel: *Of course! 1 pm, right?*
Rosé: *Yep, see you then!*

She tossed her phone aside and stared up at the ceiling. High school had been... okay. Sure, she wasn't one of the popular girls, and dealing with Ricchie, her bully, was exhausting, but she had her close-knit group of friends, and that was enough. Still, she longed for something more, for that guy friend she could talk to about anything and everything. She was tired of the all-girls environment and looked forward to the mixed crowd at university.

Her thoughts were swirling with possibilities. What would he be like? Maybe he'd be funny, someone who didn't care about looks or popularity. Someone she could laugh with, someone who wouldn't see her as just a girl but as a friend.

"Rachel!" her mom's voice called from downstairs.
"Coming!" Rachel called back, jumping out of bed. She straightened her hair in the mirror, taking a quick glance at her reflection. At 5'4" with soft features and expressive eyes, Rachel knew she was pretty, but being beautiful hadn't really gotten her much attention. Guys never seemed to stick around long enough to get to know her as a person.

As she headed downstairs, Rachel's mind wandered back to her plan. *One more year,* she reminded herself. Just one more year, and she would finally be in an environment where guys and girls coexisted naturally. Maybe then, she'd find the one person who could prove Lisa wrong.

And with that thought, a small smile tugged at her lips. She couldn't wait to start her new chapter.
