Flashback

Bianca tightly grips the steering wheel as she speeds down the road going at least twice the speed limit.

Her mind is racing faster than her car is as she silently prays everyone is okay.

Her baby sister called begging Bianca to come get her because their mom was acting strangely.

Their mother's history of drug abuse alone is concerning enough to make her leave her job mid shift.

She's been clean for a few years but Bianca knows more than anyone how sneaky her mother can be. She could have relapsed months ago without anyone noticing until it's too late.

Arriving in record time, she opens the door to her parents' house immediately being hit with the smell of copper.

She steps further in the house and sees her dad's feet peaking from behind the couch.

The sight sends a jolt of panic through her, and a heavy feeling settles in her chest, constricting her breath for a second.

She expects to see him dead.
He probably wouldn't be lying motionless on the cold floor if he weren't.

What she doesn't expect to see is 4 year old Bey in a pool of their dead father's blood as she lays on his chest crying.

Silently nestled against the still form of their father, her tiny fingers clutch the fabric of his shirt.

Bianca can't get a good look at her father because Beyoncé sees her and scrambles to get to her.

She tries to stand, slipping in the blood pooled on the marble floor before she finally gets her footing and crashes into her sister.

Bianca picks the child up, rushing them to her car.

Whoever did this could still be in there.

Megan

I walk out of the house and hop into the backseat of Kevin's car waiting for him and Mani to come out.

My gaze drifts to the house across the street.

For the majority of my life, it was home to Mr. York, a kind old man who was a surrogate grandfather to me and Normani.

He was so old that by the time Mani and I were born, his kids were already grandparents.

His wife, Ms. Pearl, passed away when we were around 7 years old and he lived there alone after her death.

His family rarely visited him so Mani and I would go hang out with him until he died last year.

His kids remodeled the house and sold it in a matter of months.
