hello again. I am a kinda bad novice author, so be aware that my stories may be wack and/or badly paced. Be wary that this story is prone to be pushed aside just like all my other ones are! Now that all that has been said... {[WELCOME BACK, ONE AND ALL, TO A DIFFERENT KIND OF STORY!]}

Here be demons and gods.

Warning: this story will have sporadic updates, questionable timing, unhinged behaviors, and a my brand of stupidity.

As usual...

One day, while typing away on my computer, writing [A Pyrrhic Nikos], I, our beloathed author clutched my chest, my heart pounding and beating erratically.

"SHit, no, nonono, not when I finally..."

I collapse against the table, my life quickly fading as my heart gives out.

I wake up in a black void, unable to see anything in any direction.

"...Well, I guess this is hell..." I sigh, as I get up, and set my rapidly building panic aside. "Know what? fuck it. might as well." I pick a direction and start walking.

I take some time to look over my body, only to find it's pitch black, just like the void. I sigh, and keep walking.

Hours pass, and I notice that I feel watched. I shudder as I change direction, turning right as I keep walking. 'Not gonna piss off anything in this void...' I feel the gaze intensify, and I begin to pick up the pace.

"...it's following me." as I say that, I see something in the far distance. A slightly less black space among the nothingness. An ever-so-slight blue tint to the dark. I run. I can feel something behind me, persuing me as I flee from it, towards the distant light. I run for what feels like a day's time, thankful that I don't seem to tire. However, I feel it. The...something behind me, closing in rapidly. I turn and look, and quickly wish I didn't.

A monster. It looks just like a human male, only with pure black eyes, a gaping, sharp-toothed maw, inch-long claws on its fingers, and pale, hairless skin.

I look ahead, and I wince as the blue light intensifies. I feel it getting far too close, so I leap. I feel my 'back' catch on something, and I am slammed into the void floor. I scream, as what has been chasing me tears into me. I grit my teeth, and with a surge of willpower and strength, I pull myself into the blue light. I feel the thing pull away and flee from the surging light. I collapse against the black, formless floor of the void, and look up at the light. I see nothing but a small, flickering blue flame floating in the dark. I blink, and standing there is...me. But different. White hair, tan skin, and blue eyes. Wearing a black jumpsuit, like that of a prisoner. The... doppelganger kneels next to me, giggling in a twisted form of my voice. It's all too...familiar.

"Heya, Little Dreamer." It speaks, my voice coming from its mouth, overlapping itself and echoing in the now cosmic void.

I look up at it. "...what...is...this...?"

it chuckles "You're Dead, kid. Capital 'D' Dead. Time's up, for you. Even your soul is falling apart thanks to that monster I so kindly rid you of."

I turn and look at my back, and see a massive gouge in it. Blue, whispy mist coils from the wound, carrying blue sparks up from my flesh, as my flesh decays into said sparks. "...fuck..."

"Indeed." It grins. "But I have an offer, Kid. You see, I'm bored. And I find my outermost self is infested with...undesirable worlds that I find no interest in. universes that I find dull now. You, kid, are unique. Like all humans of your particular universe. I can see the fate and outcomes of all beings, except those from your universe, and the worlds that beings like you end up in. It has been SO long since one of you ended up here. So I offer you a choice. Make a deal with me, or let me watch you and your dissolve into the nothingness." It grins wider, its teeth too white, its face contorting in ways that a human's face can't. I look at my back and let out a long, exhausted sigh. I look back at it and see it reach out its hand. I grit my teeth and speak. "Fine. I accept. what's the deal, Indifference?"

It throws its head back and laughs. "Oh, so you know of that interpretation of me! Very good, then you know what I want. I see these...undesirable worlds as just that. so I don't care for them. This allows the void, my birthplace, and birthed creation, to flow into them. This isn't an issue...if I cared about them. But I don't. So they...begin to decay. To be corrupted, or simply end. You're out of time, Kid, and so are these worlds. But I can tell...this news hurts your so very kind heart. So! Here's the deal. I want you to enter these worlds, and make them entertaining for me. Tragedy, comedy, fix-it, corrupt-it, dead dove, or simply live in it. I don't care, honestly. You simply existing in them makes the future in them shrouded to me. Makes it entertaining. In exchange, I'll save your soul, give you a particular boon, and make you a Tenno. Not a immortal one, mind. That'd make it boring again. Of course, some of 'you' will be lost and replaced. Even I can't replace a dissolved soul. To keep this interesting, you get..." The Man Inside the Wall/the Indifference holds up its pointer finger. "One life per setting. die, and I'll make you watch as the void consumes it and all that you love inside it. Then, I'll shunt you into a new setting. of course, you'll keep a few tiny things from the previous setting. and if you manage to 'beat' the setting, I'll move you on...but let you go back to it whenever. not for long, of course, but it's something. Now..." It holds its hand back out to me. "Deal, Little Dreamer?

I nod, and take its hand. The void is engulfed in bright blue light. I feel the energy permeate all of me. I feel the gouges in my soul be filled by the Void. I feel my memories fragment and scatter, before being pieced back together by the Indifference. I fade, and come back. and fade. and come back. over, and over, and over again...until I am no more, and yet am still myself.

I cease to be

I start to be

I cease to cease

I cease to start

I start to start

I start to cease

I become myself

I gasp awake, my eyes shooting open as I sit up and grab at my chest, my heart pounding.

I look up with uncertain eyes, as I see something I recognize.

[Welcome, Dreamer, to the Game of the Man in the Wall]
