Not for the first time, the secretary of the Silver Lining Dental Clinic received a greeting for the morning, that came from the scheduled patient. It was a fresh morning for her --- good breakfast, no traffic jam encountered, and just cleaned and prepared the office. Her smile was genuine and just happy typing the patients record in their system and ---
"Ma'am Honey," another voice sprang as the door opened to the concierge area. It was another woman. "Doc Treponemas asked me where is the study cast of the patient, as in Mr. Dentrifico's. Doc wants it right now. Do you remember where it's placed?"
"Oh, yes, it's right on the hanging cabinet near the hallway. The one on number 7."
"Thanks," said Ma'am Leah, the dental assistant, as her steps slowly faded going to the hallway.
After half an hour, the dentist already dismissed the patient.
Ma'am Honey told the next patient to come inside the operating room. The man on the waiting area sitting at the couch finally stood up. He was tall with a muscular build, with a slicked-back hair. He wore a black tight shirt and pants. He also had silver necklaces and bracelets. The scents of his masculine perfume had reeked the whole room. However, he was wearing a mask.
Before he entered the operating room, Ma'am Leah made him wear a PPE, shoe cover, and a headcap. He was now then inside the room where the dental chair, the dentist, and the assistant were in. He was asked to sit on the dental chair comfortably. Then Ma'am Leah clipped and placed the bib on his chest.
The dentist took a patient chart and started interviewing the patient.
"May I know your name, Sir?" he asked.
"I am Slater Monterazas," replied the patient.
The dentist started taking down notes and filling out the chart.
"How about your age?"
"I am 26 years old."
The conversation went on as the dentist asked him about his address, height, and weight, etc.
"Did you have any surgery before? Or like when was your last physical examination?"
"Yes, they had to fix my left leg because they were fractured due to the motorcycle accident that happened 3 years ago," explained the patient. "And it's also the reason why I have a missing tooth on my front teeth too."
"If you let me, may I see it?" requested the dentist.
The patient then removed his mask and started showing his teeth.
"Oh, I see,"
The dentist then proceeded to ask the patient if he had prolonged bleedings after the surgery, asked him if he was wearing a prosthetic device, and if he was taking a medication at this time. All the patient's answers were NO or NONE.
After that, the dentist asked the patient if he had any of the following:
Alcoholism Hypertension Epilepsy Hepatitis Kidney or Liver
Rheumatic Fever Hypotension Allergies Cancer Glaucoma
Herpes Mental Illness Sinusitis Anemia Diabetes
Head and Neck Injuries Heart Disease Infectious Disease Respiratory Disease
Venereal Disease
Fortunately, the responds of the patient were all NO or NONE.
"Did you ever visit a dentist before?"
"Yes, Doc," replied the patient. "It was for pulling out my tooth that was impacted when I was nineteen years old. It was my first and last visit of dental clinic because I got traumatized by it because my face had swollen after extraction, but it was managed successfully and did not cause further problems and complication. But still, the trauma was there so I was already afraid to visit the dentist again which explains why I couldn't get my teeth fixed."
"Oh, I see,"
"But it took me a lot of time and courage to visit a dental clinic because I was always bullied that 'I am handsome but got an ugly tooth.' And my friends are the ones who told me to just wear mask."
The dentist sniggered and Ma'am Leah made a half-suppressed laugh as to not to offend the patient.
"Well, yeah," said the dentist. "I get their point. But you're here now! And I am here to help you with open arms."
The conversation went on and it was discovered that the patient didn't have any other dental procedures aside from the extraction of his impacted tooth.
The dentist began examining the mouth and the teeth of the patient.
The dentist told the assistant to bring the patient to the X-ray room. After several minutes, the patient and the assistant were back.
"On your upper right side, you have three teeth in back with gums that has receded exposing few millimeters on the upper part of the root of your tooth but worry less because we will just manage it. The middle most part of your lower teeth, two of them, are mobile, and this means we must pull it out. You also have heavy tartars behind your lower teeth in the front. The three teeth right on your lower right side, at the back, have cavities that are deep already, and they need to have some filling."
The patient kept nodding as he was paying attention to the dentist.
"And also, the tooth next to your missing tooth is already discolored and based on the x-ray it is already dead, so we need to do some root canal on it," discussed the dentist. "If you don't know, root canal treatment is a procedure in which instead of pulling out your teeth we will save it. That means your tooth is still there but dead but no infection also and most importantly it is intact."
"Okay Doc," nodded Slater.
"Lastly, your teeth are not on their proper positions," added the dentist. "They are tilted and some of them are not in a proper alignment so I suggest we will fix it using braces."
"Do everything what needs to be done Doc," declared Slater. "I am willing to pay everything but just fix all of the problems of my teeth."
The dentist felt a spark on his stomach as he heard those words.
The dentist started cleaning and removing the moderately thick tartar on the patient's teeth. After that, he then dismissed the patient and told him to come back the next day.
The dentist was so excited to message in the group chat and announced them something.
