The next day finally came, it was a gloomy morning. The sky was reeking gray colors and there were thick dark clouds reigning on the skies. The people in the city had the feeling that today would be a rainy day.
Aside from the weather, there was someone who looked gloomy too as though all the sunshine of his body were gone. The dental assistants noticed that Dr. Dan was not on his usual self, and he was quiet the whole time.
Today, Mr. Monterazas was scheduled for his root canal treatment.
Dr. Dan was not on duty for today, so Dr. Senogara took the shift.
The treatment finally began and Dr. Senogara started it by administering local anesthesia to make sure that there is no discomfort that will be felt by the patient. Then, he created a hole on the surface of the tooth, and this would allow access to the pulp (a soft tissue inside the tooth that contain the nerves) of the tooth. After that, he then proceeded cleaning the chamber inside the tooth using special tools to purify it from infection. Next, the cleaned pulp chamber was shaped with the use of special tools and then filled with materials that were biologically compatible. This phase of the procedure aims to support the inside part of the tooth and then protect it from external factors and influences.
After Dr. Jang completed the root canal treatment, he then sealed the tooth with a filling so that the tooth will be provided protection from the influence outside and to allow the tooth to keep the functions normally. There, Dr. Jang formed the anatomic shape of the tooth as a goal of restoring the form and the function of the tooth.
That was it. The root canal procedure was finally done and then Sir Slater was satisfied with the results, He told Dr. Jang that he had some special skills and thanked him. Slater as usual, a busy man with his business meetings and appointments he could only spend at least an hour visiting the dental clinic, so he was then asked again to come back tomorrow for surgical extraction of the tooth.
The following day, Dr. Dan's watched sounded and it told him that the time was 1 o'clock in the afternoon.
"Doc Kristine, you can start the treatment now," said Dr. Dan on the small room in their clinic.
Mr. Monterazas was then asked to enter the operating room and without further ado, the treatment was about to start.
The injections, topical anesthesia, anesthetic agent for numbing the tooth (lidocaine), gloves, basic instruments, forceps, needles, and carpules were all organized and prepared ion the area.
Dr. Cuspahon dried the area of the injection site using a gauze then applied a topical gel using a cotton applicator on the highest muccobuccal fold. One minute was finally consumed and Dr. Tin finally loaded the carpules into the syringe and attached the needles on it. She then removed the cap revealing the thin, sharp, beveled needle. She then injected the site then she waited for few minutes and then asked Sir Slater if he was feeling numb --- in which he said yes.
There, she started picking up the forceps and started pulling out the two mobile teeth.
When the removal of the tooth was successful, she then cleaned the socket with the use of curette and then washed the site with a normal saline solution.
She soaked the folded gauze into the povidone iodine liquid then placed it on the extracted site and instructed the patient to bite it for at least 30 minutes. After that, she prescribed mefenamic acid 500 milligrams every 8 hours or as needed for pain. After that, she instructed Sir Slater not to do any tedious works, avoid using straw, and avoid spitting as this could dislodge the healing are of the site of the extraction.
It was nearly six in the evening; all the assistants and all the patients were gone. Dr. Dan was the only one left on the clinic. The room was half-lit and as though silent and empty just like his heart.
He kept checking his phone waiting for a reply in the messenger.
