A single candle burns on the corner of the bedside table, in the grandiose room, lighting nothing but a man's face. Leaving the rest in absolute darkness. The cold night air blows in gentle waves through the open window.

The night a stark dark colour, the sky cloudless and showing off the magnificent network of stars, twinkling in the night.

The man slips the covers of himself, taking a long breath at the edge of his bed. Contemplating if his idea is worth pursuing, running his slim fingers through his already thinning hair, grey streaks highlight through his dark hair.

He slips on his white night slippers, adjusting his night shirt before he grabs the candle from the nightstand, holding it by the candle holder's ear. To lead his way to the window, even though he doesn't need it to find it, neither does it really give any light.

But nonetheless, he doesn't care for it. At the edge of his bed end, he turns back, looking at his younger wife. Pale skin and bags under her beautiful deep blue eyes. Although, closed since she's blissfully sleeping. A wave of sorrow washes over him.

He couldn't imagine how this could happen, they did everything they were told to, asked for help from his best friend. Even Mr Monocle couldn't find a reason or a solution.

And so, the middle aged man, had unfortunately, come to his last resort. Something he had denied and refused to do since he had been just a boy. He set the candle on the windowsill, taking a seat beside it and stared at the sky.

Watching for a moment as the stars twinkled in the dark night, showing their beauty and the many things the world had lost since humans had discovered electricity and lightbulbs. But even then, the man couldn't stop himself from admiring nature around him and if he did ever, he would teach it.

With a smile, he watch them twinkle for a while longer, before his eyes were cast back at his wife. Oh how they tried, how it had upset his wife, his beautiful and loving wife that he is sure to be the kindest of the world. The perfect human being with enough spice to her that would make her formidable among her young students.

His wife who loves the piano more than a child loves their child's plushie. That if she had pursued it, would have been a world famous artist but alas, she had chosen to teach instead of follow that talent, to stay with him and be the rock and the foundation that is his life.

He can only imagine what it would be to see something as beautiful as her. But as how things are, he may never know. That she might be the most beautiful woman in the world and only be the only one. He always thought she would get to put her beauty to action and create something more beautiful with it.

But it was not meant to be.

Was his only conclusion.

And so, the man just looks with a heavy sigh back to the sky, to watch the stars twinkle and show their beauty. He could only hope that he would see a falling star and to wish upon it.
