Hey beautiesssss, your author is back with a new chapter more on the way.......The following week passed in a whirlwind of excitement and trepidation. Suyeon couldn’t shake off the exhilaration of the heist, but the closer she grew to Jungkook, the more questions bubbled to the surface. Secrets surrounded them like a thick fog, and each moment spent together felt laden with unspoken truths.
As they met in their usual spot—a quiet café tucked away from the bustling streets—Suyeon took a moment to observe Jungkook. He sat across from her, his brow furrowed in thought as he absentmindedly stirred his coffee. The light from the window cast shadows across his face, highlighting the tension that seemed to radiate from him.
“Hey,” she said softly, breaking the silence. “You’ve been quiet lately.”Jungkook looked up, his expression shifting from contemplation to surprise. “Oh, sorry. Just…thinking,” he replied, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.“What about?” Suyeon pressed, her curiosity piqued.
They had built a foundation of trust, and she wanted to delve deeper into the layers of his life.He hesitated, the silence stretching between them. “Just some things I need to take care of,” he finally said, avoiding her gaze.“More heists?” she joked, attempting to lighten the mood, but the tension lingered.“Something like that,” he replied, his voice low.
“I’m just trying to make sure you’re safe. There are people who won’t take kindly to what we did.”A knot tightened in her stomach at his words. The reality of their choices weighed heavily on her, and she could feel the shadows closing in. “Are you worried about me?” she asked, her heart fluttering at the thought.
“Of course,” he said, his tone earnest. “I can’t let anything happen to you. You mean too much to me.”His admission hung in the air, electric and raw. Suyeon’s breath caught in her throat, a whirlwind of emotions swirling inside her. She had known that their bond was growing deeper, but hearing him say it made her heart race.
“You mean a lot to me too, Jungkook,” she replied, her voice barely a whisper. Before the moment could fully sink in, a sudden commotion erupted in the café. The door swung open, and a group of men entered, their boisterous laughter cutting through the air.
Suyeon felt a chill run down her spine as she recognized one of them—Minho, the very person Jungkook had warned her about.
“Let’s find a seat, boys!” Minho called out, his eyes scanning the room. When they landed on Suyeon and Jungkook, a predatory grin spread across his face. “Well, well, if it isn’t my favorite bartender and her new boyfriend.”Suyeon’s heart raced as she exchanged a glance with Jungkook, who was instantly on high alert.
“Stay calm,” he murmured under his breath, his expression hardening.“Didn’t expect to see you here,” Minho continued, swaggering over to their table.
“Enjoying your little romance? How cute.”
“What do you want, Minho?” Jungkook asked, his voice low and dangerous.“Oh, just wanted to check in on you both,” Minho replied, leaning closer. “You see, it’s a small world we live in, and I’ve heard some interesting things.
Like how you two pulled off that heist. Impressive. But you know, that kind of attention comes with risks.”Suyeon felt her stomach drop. She could sense the tension thickening, the threat of Minho’s words hanging in the air.
“We’re not interested in whatever you’re selling,” she said defiantly, trying to stand her ground.Minho laughed, a dark, mocking sound. “Oh, sweet Suyeon, you have no idea how deep this rabbit hole goes. But you’re in over your head now. And I’m not the only one watching.”
Before Suyeon could respond, Jungkook stood up, his posture tense. “Back off, Minho. We’re done with you,” he warned, his voice steady.Minho’s eyes gleamed with malice. “You think you can protect her? You’re just a kid playing at being tough. There are bigger players in this game, and they won’t take kindly to you stealing from them.”
“Go,” Suyeon urged Jungkook, fear creeping into her voice. “Let’s just leave.”Jungkook’s jaw tightened, but he nodded, turning to lead her out of the café. As they stepped into the cool night air, the weight of Minho’s words hung heavily between them.“What did he mean? Are we really in danger?” Suyeon asked, her voice trembling.Jungkook sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“We knew there would be consequences for the heist. Minho is just trying to intimidate us, but he’s right about one thing—there are people who won’t let this go.”“Who are they?” Suyeon pressed, her heart racing.“It doesn’t matter right now,” Jungkook replied, his eyes narrowing as he scanned their surroundings.
“What matters is keeping you safe.”“But I want to help! I can’t just sit back while you deal with this,” she insisted, frustration bubbling to the surface.
“You’ve pulled me into this world, and I won’t just be a bystander.”Jungkook’s expression softened, and he stepped closer, his voice low and intense. “This isn’t just a game, Suyeon. I don’t want you involved in this. I care too much about you to let you get hurt.”
“I can handle myself,” she argued, her voice rising. “I want to be by your side. I can’t be left in the dark.”
For a moment, the tension hung heavy between them, and Suyeon could see the conflict in his eyes. “There are things you don’t know, things I can’t tell you,” he finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “It’s not just about the heist; it’s about my past.”
Suyeon felt her heart sink at his words. “What do you mean?”Jungkook hesitated, the weight of his secrets pressing down on him. “I’ve made choices, and those choices come with consequences. I’m trying to protect you from that.”“What choices?” she pressed, feeling the urgency in her chest. “I deserve to know.”
He took a deep breath, his gaze intense. “I can’t go into details. But trust me, getting involved in my world means stepping into danger. I don’t want you to carry that burden.”
Suyeon felt frustration and hurt welling up inside her. “If you care about me, then let me in. Don’t push me away.”
Jungkook’s expression hardened as he grappled with her words. “I’ll protect you, even if it means keeping you in the dark.”Suyeon’s breath hitched in her throat, feeling the chasm between them grow wider. “You’re choosing to lie to me,” she whispered, tears prickling at the corners of her eyes. “How can we build something real if we’re standing on a foundation of secrets?
“What if the people hunting us aren’t just after the heist, but are coming for you?”
