The Moon(WIP)

I just realized.. that I don't hear any rain. I say "Kayla, do you hear any rain or thunder??" and her face becomes shocked for a moment. She says "N..no. Let's go look!" We both quickly make our way over to the storage room entrance and open the door, and we still hear nothing as we come into the dealership showroom. Upon entering, I see that the room is very weirdly lit up with a strange light, but one that also looks strangely familiar. It's not sunlight... it's moonlight. I slowly walk out and look up, and I see a massive hole in the mile thick layer of clouds in the sky, and beaming straight through it is the moon. It's.. so much closer than it used to be. So much bigger. Kayla gasps when she sees it herself. The mix of emotions that flows through me is astounding. I feel.. excited, happy, and full of hope at seeing a break in the clouds and storm that's not ended or let up once in three years. I also feel fear, and sadness, and hopelessness at knowing that we have a lot less time on this Earth than we thought. The moon will collide with the planet long before we get cooked by the Sun. Nothing will survive that. Still, I push those negative emotions away and just try to enjoy what may be the last time we ever get to see the Moon again. I look over at Kayla, and she has a couple tears falling down her face. I walk over to her and lay my arms around her, and she smiles as we look up at the moon together, just holding each other, swaying back and forth lightly in each other's arms as we enjoy the moment. It doesn't take long for that mass of swirling clouds to close back on itself and hide the moon and stars from our sight once more. We both sigh and release each other. I say "I can't begin to guess what caused that. Maybe it was me messing with my 'powers' moments ago. I suppose that means maybe we'll get to see the sky more than just once." Kayla says "Yeah. That would be nice." I walk over to the windowed wall and look around. The white wall just.. vanished. Something very.. very strange is going on. This whole journey has been insane, and made zero sense. It's like nothing is happening how it should. Those beasts don't work together.. they kill each other. They should do everything in their power to kill us the second they see or hear us, or even smell us. We're making progress much faster than anticipated, but.. our destination may have already been destroyed by that huge wave of them that came tumbling over us, and I know with certainty that they saw us while crossing over. Now we're in this dealership, but with the whitewall gone, we can power up one of their electric vehicles and get the heck out of here. We have yet to go look at the other cars in their huge garage. We've only been in storage, so all we can do is just hope there's an undamaged battery that we can charge up. We don't need it to go far. Just fifteen miles.. and we'd reach the base. I'm holding out hope that they weren't attacked, or if they were, then I hope they defended themselves. If I recall correctly, there were a couple hundred soldiers stationed there, so.. they certainly stand a decent chance. Kayla is walking towards the car garage and says "Shall we look around?" I smile and say "Yeah, might as well." I follow her in into the huge garage, and when we go to open the doors, they're a bit stiff to open. Old security locks and stuff must be holding them together, but the doors are heavily rusted along the inner frames. That's either a good or bad thing, and I'm about to find out. I step back and kick open the metal door as hard as I can, and it busts open revealing an untouched section of electric vehicles that must span down to about twenty rows of four cars each. I sigh and say "Thank God.. I was worried. I figured it was untouched when I saw it from the outside, but I wasn't entirely sure. No roots have hit the building, which is a godsend. Start looking around to see if there's any spare batteries-" I point back towards a small room that looks like it has spare parts. "-back there in that small room. I'm gonna look at these cars and see what condition the tires are in." Kayla nods and does just that. I start looking around at all the tires of the cars, and I see a lot of them are a bit flat, which isn't the end of the world, but it would make the drive extremely difficult, and probably a bit dangerous. I hear Kayla say "I found some hun. There's like.. eight or nine in this crate, and then a few more farther back. They come with jumpers, but.. I don't see a generator anywhere, do you?" Ah crap, she's right. We need power. Then I hear her say "Wait, there's a crank generator back here, or I think it's a crank generator. Can you come look? It looks a bit.. weird." I start making my way over to where she is, stepping around different skids and forklifts and other machinery. I get back to where she is, and I see the crank generator she was talking about, and it certainly looks weird to me. I say "Yeah, that's a crank generator alright, I can't imagine what else it'd be. I can't say I've ever actually seen one before." It's a red generator looking thing but on a smaller scale, with a large single handle churn crank on top. It comes with two jumper slots attached already. I say "Alright, let's get a battery switched out of one of these cars and see if this works. I let her carry the crank while I lug one of these car batteries over to the nearest electric vehicle. It looks like some sort of white SUV, and a decently intact one too. The tires aren't fully deflated, although there is a sign of very very little leakage. I'm sure it can be aired up and good to go again. I open the rear right passenger door and lean in to move the chair out of the way. I unhook it and shove it out of the way as I reach down and start revealing the battery beneath the floor panel, and it looks slightly corroded. Luckily it hasn't ruined the connectors, so that's a plus. I take care to not get old decayed battery acid on my hands and remove the current connectors. I start yanking on the battery handle, and after some slight crackling sounds, it finally comes free. I set it on the ground to the side and then reach for the new battery. I go to set it in, and I sweat a little as it doesn't fit, but suddenly it slips right in and I sigh with relief. I push down to secure it and then connect it to the car, placing the cover back on. Kayla was already working on setting up the crank generator. I see her start hooking the connectors onto the positive and ground, and my heart sinks as I see that the wires are exposed and broken along the ground wire. I say "Kayla.. the uhh, ground wire is screwed up, unhook the positive real quick." She says "Crap, I see that." and takes the red off. I look at the wire and I was right, the wire's are completely broken apart. I sigh and set it on the ground and say "Did you see another one when we were back there?" and she shakes her head but says "No, but it won't hurt to look for another one." We both make our way back to the section of tools and start looking. I immediately see another crank generator, but again, the connectors are broken. I say "There's another one here but the wires are still broken. Maybe this is a junk tool section. Let's try farther back to see if there's any in better condition." Kayla then says "Hun.. there's no more rooms back there, I looked from here. It's just wall and windows." I lean around, not that I didn't trust her eye sight, but still wouldn't hurt to look myself. Unfortunately though she's right. There's not much farther to go, and it's very clearly just wall and window. I start walking around anyways and say "Well.. maybe there's something along the walls or something we can't see. She says "I'll go look at the first one and see if I can pull them together somehow, and don't worry, I won't shock myself."
