october 11th ; another hang out

the rain was pouring as i stared out the window, watching as the droplets raced each other down the glass. i held my phone, absently scrolling, checking the time every so often. my dad would be driving me over to in-soo's place soon, and i felt that familiar mix of excitement and dread. i loved our chaotic friend group, but spending time with them often meant bracing for whatever nonsense changbin and jisung had in store.

"ready?" my dad's voice broke through my thoughts. he grabbed his keys and headed toward the door without waiting for an answer, which was his way of letting me know he was on a schedule. i pulled my hoodie over my head and followed, smiling a little at the thought of our plan for the day. a hangout at in-soo's apartment was always an experience, and the dreary weather promised the kind of cozy vibe perfect for endless rounds of dares, games, and all the drama that came with them.

after a quick drive filled with dad's classic rock and awkward silence, we pulled up to in-soo's building.

"thanks, dad," i muttered, hopping out and jogging toward the entrance as he gave me a brief nod and waved.

upstairs, i rang the doorbell, shuffling my feet as i waited. in-soo's mom opened the door with a teasing smile. "it's always the rainy days you show up, haewon," she said, raising an eyebrow playfully. "are you sure you're not a storm cloud?"

i laughed, waving it off. "only if you want me to be, mrs. kim." i stepped inside, my shoes squeaking as i slipped them off, feeling the warm, cozy air wash over me.

inside, i found changbin lounging on the couch, already scrolling through his phone. he looked up, grinning. "oh, hey, haewon. ready to get humiliated today?"

i rolled my eyes. "i think we both know who the real threat is here, and it's not me." i plopped down beside him, careful to leave a respectable distance between us, since in-soo was somewhere in the apartment and i didn't need her giving me any suspicious looks. changbin and i were friends, but he was firmly off-limits as in-soo's boyfriend.

"where's in-soo?" i asked, stretching out and trying to ignore the mischief in changbin's eyes.

"getting snacks," he replied nonchalantly, glancing down at his phone. a beat passed before he grinned and said, "hey, wanna make a tiktok?"

i narrowed my eyes. "what kind of tiktok?"

"oh, you know. something humiliating."

before i could respond, he lifted his phone and started recording. he leaned close, directing me with exaggerated gestures as i tried to pull away and look annoyed. changbin snickered, editing the footage on the spot and slapping it onto a trending tiktok audio. "perfect," he said, chuckling at his handiwork.
