Julie's point of view:

The end of August was coming into view. Two more weeks, and I would finally get to see Harry. My mother and I went to Diagon Alley to get all the things I needed for school. Mom made sure I had everything, as I could be a bit forgetful from time to time. I had already packed my trunk and had been reading my schoolbooks because I still needed to catch up a bit, so I'd be on the same level as the rest of my year. I also made sure to pack my favorite clothes.

I really hoped people were going to like me. I wondered what house I would be in... Maybe Gryffindor like my mother. That would be nice. Everyone I knew or had heard of was in Gryffindor—my uncle James, my aunt Lily. Mother told me they were good people, though I never really got to know them. Just like I never got to meet Marlene, Alice, or other people my mother never wanted to reveal the real names of. She once told me about her adventures with her brother and three other boys: Moony, Padfoot, Prongs and Wormtail. Although she didn't like talking about them too much, she said some of them were bad people and that I should be glad I never met them. I never asked why—it was still a sensitive topic for her.

"Mom, I guess we need to go now. It's 10:45, and our Portkey is departing in five minutes!" I yelled from the bathroom, still brushing my teeth.

I heard my mom yell back, "Yes, yes, I'm almost ready."

I put on my shoes, my toothbrush still hanging out of my mouth. I ran back to the bathroom and almost slipped over my undone shoelaces. My trunk was right beside my bedroom door, so after finishing rinsing my mouth, I grabbed it and went downstairs. My wand was in my other hand, the one I bought at Ollivanders' Wand Shop. It was made of hazel wood, with unicorn hair as the core. I loved the dark brown color with a golden swirl at the end.

"I have everything in my trunk, it's okay, Mom," I said, shaking my head as I entered the living room, seeing my mother searching all over the place, for something that was probably already packed.

"Do you have your robes and gloves?" she asked me, and I was sure I did.

"Yes," I replied as I headed for the door.

     "Muggle clothes and shoes?"

"Uh-huh," I said, rolling my eyes, checking the time on the clock.

"Your schoolbooks, quill, and cauldron?" she mused, raising an eyebrow.

"Ye—no!" I quickly let go of my trunk and sprinted upstairs as Mom laughed quietly. I found the missing quills on my desk, grabbed them, and we were finally ready to go.

We apparated to the place where our Portkey was—a run-down old pub. It looked damp and dusty, and I had to keep myself from sneezing. The floor creaked underfoot, and there wasn't much light due to the dirty windows. Mom was already heading to the back, and I saw a man standing at the end of the bar. He was a creepy, middle-aged wizard.
