Laney groggily reached over to her nightstand to silence the alarm, and then she remembered, she had to go to work today. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and sat up, trying to shake off the fatigue. Max, sensing her movement, wagged his tail and let out a curious bark.

"Good morning, buddy," Laney mumbled, "But Mommy has to go to work today." She swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood up, stretching her arms above her head. Max followed her to the bathroom, watching with interest as she got ready for the day.

As she brushed her teeth, Laney thought about all the things she had to do at work today. She was already running late, and she still had to take Max out for a quick walk before leaving the house. "Okay, buddy, let's go potty!" she exclaimed, clipping on his leash and hurrying him out the door.

The morning air was crisp and cool, and Max sniffed around eagerly as Laney rushed him through his morning routine. After a quick walk, they returned home, and Laney gave him a hasty goodbye kiss on the head. "Be good, buddy. Mommy will be home soon." And with that, she was out the door, racing to get to work on time.

She couldn't wait to get home to Max and give him a big hug she knew he'd be waiting by the door, tail wagging excitedly. The walk home was a short one, and soon Laney was pushing open her front door, calling out

"Hey, buddy! Mom's home!" Max yelped with excitement, and Laney laughed, dropping her bag and scooping him up in a big hug. "Missed you, little guy!" she exclaimed, burying her face in his fur.

"It's 5:00 PM, time to make you food!" Mel exclaimed, setting Max down and heading to the kitchen. She opened the cabinet and pulled out his kibble, pouring it into his bowl.

Max tail wagged excitedly as he watched, his ears perked up in anticipation. Laney added a few slices of cooked chicken on top, and Max couldn't contain his excitement, barking happily as Laney placed the bowl in front of him.

"Enjoy your dinner, buddy!" Laney said, scratching behind his ears as he dug in. While Max ate, Laney prepared her own dinner, a simple but satisfying pasta dish. She ate at the table, watching Max with a smile as he crunched away on his kibble.

After dinner, Laney cleaned up the kitchen, and then it was time for their evening walk. She clipped on Max leash, and they set out into the crisp evening air, enjoying the sights and sounds of the neighborhood together.

Laney laughed as Max pulled and tugged on the leash, trying to break free. "Okay, okay! No leash, buddy!" she exclaimed, unclipping the leash and letting Max run free. He darted ahead, his little legs moving quickly as he explored the neighborhood.

Laney followed close behind, keeping a watchful eye on her adventurous pup. Max sniffed around, investigating every fire hydrant and tree, and Laney chuckled at his antics. As they walked, the sun began to set, casting a warm orange glow over the neighborhood.

Laney breathed in deeply, feeling the stress of the day melt away. This was her favorite part of the day just her and Max, enjoying the fresh air and each other's company.

After a while, Laney called out, "Time to head home, buddy!" Max came running back to her, tail wagging, and together they strolled back home, ready to settle in for a cozy night in.

Laney settled onto the couch with her phone, dialing her sister's number. As she waited for her sister to answer, she gazed over at Max, who was busy placing his head on her lap. "Hey, sis!" Laney exclaimed when her sister picked up. "Guess who's being a total handful tonight?"

"Who?" Stacey asked, laughing. "Max, of course!" Laney replied. "He refused to wear his leash and ran around like a maniac. But oh my gosh, it was so cute!" Stacey laughed on the other end of the line. That sounds like Max, all right.

What else has he gotten up to?" Laney launched into a detailed account of Max adventures, from stealing socks to snuggling on the couch. Her sister listened, giggling and oohing in all the right places.

As they chatted, Laney snuggled Bubbles closer, feeling grateful for her furry companion and her supportive sister. "I'm so lucky to have you both in my life," Laney said, her voice filled with affection. "Definitely," her sister agreed.

"We love you, Laney. And Max, too, of course!" Laney grinned, knowing that her sister adored Max almost as much as she did. As they wrapped up their call, Laney gave Bubbles a squeeze.

"You're the best, little guy," she whispered. Max licked her face, tail wagging softly, and she knew that he knew he was loved.

Laney stood up from the couch, yawning, and stretched her arms above her head. "Time for bed, buddy," she said to Max, who was still snuggled up beside her. Max looked up at her with big green eyes, then stood up and shook himself off.

He followed her as she made her way to the bedroom, his little tail wagging softly. As Laney changed into her pajamas, Max hopped up onto the bed, claiming his spot at the foot of the bed. Laney smiled and scratched behind his ears.

"Goodnight, little guy," she whispered, slipping into bed beside him. Max snuggled up close, his gentle snores a soothing soundtrack as Laney drifted off to sleep.

Laney's eyes flew open, and she sat up with a start. She was alone in her bedroom last nighy, but suddenly, a man was sitting on her bed, staring at her with an intense gaze. She was shocked and terrified.

Max was nowhere to be seen, Laney was completely alone. She let out a loud scream, her heart racing with fear. "AHHHHH! WHO ARE YOU? GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!" she yelled at the top of her lungs.

"Damn" he said.
