Thanks to Celine I finally got a day to rest. It was well needed. I've been working nonstop since she left for her trip. Not that I mind, I do love working in the store. But doing it alone can be a bit much. Thankfully I was able to convince Celine we needed more than just me and her since we were really starting to take off. Ironically she was acting weird when I asked about anything happening when I was gone. I was kind of hoping she'd mention something about Rocky. He probably decided that after getting caught breaking in that coming back wasn't worth it. Bummer.
It's shocking that he was on my mind. I find him more annoying than anything, right? All he's done since we met is piss me off and create a mess that I've had to clean the other night being an exception. It's like he doesn't know how to act like a normal person. It hasn't even been that long and he's been trapped in my mind. It's not like I have feelings for him. I mean on a sexual level yes. He's the first man to actually combat me in years and definitely not too bad to look at. To not find my attitude and slight harshness a problem from what I can tell. It seems like he welcomes the challenge. Unlike others who see it as me being difficult or picky. But he's only here to win. Which means off limits. I won't give in to anyone when I know they won't be here the next day.
Suddenly I feel a presence in front of me. The same one I've been feeling for a while now. Without looking up I say, " You gonna say something or keep staring at me like a little stalker?" "There's nothing little about me. I can show you sometime."
I wanted to be mad but I walked into that. "What do you want rocky." " I heard you were on a date yesterday. Who were you with." A date? I haven't been on one in years after my last relationship failure. Who would possibly tell him I was - UGH CELINE. God, I'm going to hurt that girl. Why is she my best friend again?
"Rocky i wasn-" "Whoever it was, he clearly isn't doing enough for you" I finally looked up. " What did you just say?" "I'm just saying. With the way you react to me he clearly isn't doing something right. Maybe it's time to trade up"
I don't know if I want to stab him with this pen or laugh in his face. Is he jealous? Eh he's probably mad to think i just have a reason to not give into him and his little game. I might as well have fun with this while I can. Plus it's a slow day. I need something to entertain me.
"I'm sorry, and how exactly do I react to you? Trust me, I don't need to trade up. There's a reason why I had to have the day off" I say with a wink coming around the counter. With the way his jaw clenches I know I've hit my mark. It leaves me at a crossroad winning this little game but at the same time becoming more attracted to this man. Normally jealousy doesn't do it for me but with him it just might.
"Oops did I hit a nerve? My bad." hands on my hips. He's silent but takes a step closer. Maybe I should've quit while I was ahead. "If you traded up to the right person, you'd need more than just a day off" he whispers into my ear, making my cheeks heat up. I can't believe we're in this position again. This time he won't get what he wants.
" And who exactly would that be, I don't see any good options." Locking eyes with him I can only think about how much longer I can keep this up. I haven't felt like this in a while. It's like every time he's close my defenses start to break down and that is unwelcome. I don't know if it's been minutes or seconds but suddenly I feel a hand on my waist. "Move"
"Oh I'm sorry, will your boy toy be mad?" "wouldn't you be?" "There wouldn't be anyone in the world that could even step this close to what's mine." For a second I find myself wanting to be that girl, not wanting him to move but to pull me closer. But I know that is unrealistic. I'm just a game to this guy and I refuse to give him that win. His hand starts to move higher.
"Rocky I'm serious" I warn lightly. "What if I don't want to?" "Then you clearly don't want that hand." He laughs and it's the best thing I've ever heard. This man hasn't done more than smirk and glare since we met. To the point where I was starting to think he was a robot. "Your confidence in being able to hurt me gets more and more amusing everytime sweetheart." I find myself staring at his lips wanting to hear the sound again. At some point I felt a slight squeeze on my side. I look up, seeing his eyes staring darkly at me. He takes a quick glance to my lips and starts to slowly move in. " We shouldn't" I say almost silently, regretting it as soon as the words left my lips. Knowing he'll be gone once he sees he won't get what he's looking for. "Where's the fun in that?" he says slowly.
"Excuse me, is there anyone available to check me out?" I jump hearing a customer behind us. God the timing. Maybe I should feel thankful. Once again I let my brain shut off and the rest of my body take over.
" So sorry I'll check you out over here." The whole time I can feel Rocky's eyes on me. I can tell he's more upset than me that we got interrupted but it's not like he actually cares right. When I'm finally done he walks back up.
"So your date. What was his name?" Seriously why won't he let this go. Lucky for me the store is now empty. "Okay let's be real for a second why do you care?"
"I don't." "Then why are you here today? And tell me the truth. Clearly your first night here wasn't too great for you. And you know nothing about me yet you keep coming here. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't keep coming back to a place where I could've died. Do you even know what we sell here or do you get off stalking hard working women who just want to help people escape and enjoy something for a moment."
He stays silent and for the first time since we've met I think I've truly gone too far. "Okay" He doesn't speak another word as he turns and starts roaming the aisles. "Okay? Okay what?". He continues to roam to the point where I give up and go back to my current reading.
After a few moments I hear a loud thud on the counter. I look up to see a load of books with Rocky standing beside them. Did he seriously just pick up a bunch of random books just to prove a point. Well it's his bank account that will be drained and I would be such a bad person to stop him. " Um, you sure you want all this." "Yes" "Do you even know half of what you picked up?" I ask, noticing the amount of dark romance spreaded through the pile. I cough to cover up a laugh. I told Celine those discrete covers were going to get someone in trouble. Seeing it be him of all people brings me a bit of joy. Once again he replies "Yes".
"Is that the only answer i'm getting for the rest of this visit" This time i'm met with silence. "I'll take that as a yes. Your total is $459.80." The look on his face is priceless. "What? Things that are this good are expensive." He hands over his card with no hesitation keeping his eyes locked on me. " Enjoy your purchase. Good luck".
He hesitates at the door and without looking back says, "Think about what I said. You could do better."
