"Jessica! Jessica! Where the hell are you?" Brandon screams as he checks all the rooms looking for me. I groan as Brandon continues to slam the door and opens the door of the guest bedroom. I roll over shoving my face into the comforter.
"Jessica, what the hell are you doing in here? I was looking for you everywhere." He replies grumpily running his hand through his hair.
"I was sleeping, obviously," I say sarcastically.
"No shit Sherlock, but why are sleeping now, it's 7 o'clock. Oh no. I missed practice, fuck. "And Luke has been ringing the doorbell for hours!" He says pacing the room. Hearing Lukes' name makes me get right up of the bed in freight. Why the fuck was he here? Hadn't he done enough?
"I don't want to see him," I say shaking my head. "Tell him to go away." Talking to him would only make everything seem even more real, I can't deal with it so soon. Brandon's face morphs into one of confusion. Here the questions come.
"Why? Did something happen? Are you okay?" Then looking at me closely he asks, "Have you been crying? What the fuck did he do? Tell me," he demands.
"Brandon not now, just tell him I am gone, or sleeping. I don't care." I sigh, running my hair through my knotted hair. What would I say if I was to talk to him? Nothing could fix what he did; no excuse would make it better. I already spent my entire night crying, I was not going to have a repeat.
"Your car's here Jess so he knows you're not sleeping. Just tell me what he did and I'll break his face."
"Brandon I don't want you to do anything. Just open the door," I sigh tiredly as I hear the doorbell ring. Again. "Go, hurry!"
I move closer to the stairs, wanting to hear their conversation. Brandon opens the door and moves to the side as Luke steps inside.
"I need to talk to Jessica," Luke says as soon as he walks through the door. He goes to push past, but Brandon blocks his way, "Come on man, I need to talk to her. It's urgent." He sighs, looking worried. All I want to do is ask him why. Why he broke my heart and trust all in the same night. Did the last six years mean nothing to him?
"She's in the shower," Brandon says.
"I'll wait for her."
"She won't be out for a while. You know how long her showers last," Brandon says while attempting to push Luke out of the door.
"I have time," He said, trying to get past Brandon.
"Man, she doesn't want to talk to you! I'm sorry," Brandon says running his hand through his hair.
"Brandon, I need to talk to her!" He says nervously while furrowing his eyebrows in anger.
"What did you do Luke?" Brandon asks curiously, sighing.
"I made a mistake," He says, running his hand through his hair, roughing it up.
"I'm sorry man, I can't help you. She doesn't want to see you." Brandon opens the door to let Luke out, who sighs before leaving.
"Just tell her I came by."
Hearing the end of the conversation, I run inside the bathroom to avoid having to talk to Brandon. I quickly undress and jump into the shower lathering shampoo into my hair.
Before I could think of something new to do, Brandon screams, "Jessica! Come out!" Well looks like times up for me I think, sighing.
I get out of the shower and put a towel around myself, walking towards my bedroom. I breathe before going through. I can see that the bed has been made and my room has been cleaned too. I still can't stop myself from thinking of Luke and Amy. My best friends, what a joke.
I busy myself with getting ready and decide that tonight, I will go out. All my life I followed the rules, but tonight I was going to ignore everything; gymnastics and all of this drama. I refuse to stay inside and cry over the person who cheated on me and people who clearly don't give a shit about me, or my feelings.
I put on a sleeveless halter top with a v-neck and pair it up with my black short shorts. I put some silver bangles on and a necklace that rests between my breasts. I stare at myself through the mirror, wondering who the girl in front of me was. The smile I had always worn radiantly was now replaced with something more artificial, something fake. In that moment I realized that Luke hadn't just broken my heart, but he robbed me of my happiness.
"What the hell is going-what are you wearing Jessica?!" Brandon stops mid-sentence, staring at me with his mouth open.
"I'm going out," I respond as I put my 3 inch wedges on and close the clasp. I take my sweet time, knowing that Brandon will give me hell.
"No you're not, I don't know what is going on with you, but I refuse to let you go out looking like a hooker!" He argues, scowling.
"I'm eighteen Brandon; I don't need you looking after me!" I yell back.
"What is Luke going to say when he finds out his girlfriend is going out, dressed like a hooker?! Huh! You're not this person Jess, tell me what is wrong!" He urges, desperation seeping through his voice.
I laugh sarcastically. Luke? Luke has no say in any decision of mine, not anymore. I know my behavior is shocking to Brandon, considering I was never one to where such scandalous clothes, but I guess when shit happens, people change. And so tonight the naive girl dies and the reckless girl comes out.
"Luke and I are over Brandon. Don't bother asking me why because I am done reliving that memory. I am just going out for a few hours and I promise I will be back home before mom and dad," I reassure him, putting my ID in my clutch along with my phone. I kiss his cheek but before I leave, Brandon grabs my wrist.
"Call me if you're drunk and I'll come get you, but Jessica, this isn't you. Whatever happened you guys can get past it." That ship sailed a long time ago.
"Brandon I loved Luke, but what he did, I just don't think I can go past it," I say yanking my wrist from his hand and walking to the door.
"Talk to him Jess."
"There's nothing to talk about. I'll see you later," I say getting into my car and reapplying my lipstick. Let the night begin.
