Chapter—2
Proposal

Few months later

Madiha clenched the Quran tightly, close to her chest and was lost in her thoughts. She finished reciting and suddenly her mind drifted to a new proposal which had put her in a dilemma.

Relationship was a sensitive area and she wasn't ready to get engaged soon, let alone married that will be a few weeks. If she agrees. She had given time to think and it's been three days since.

“Can you help me with homework?” She came out of her trance when Aliya spoke, coming inside her room with a pile of paper.

Aliya was in final year of high school and being the head girl of school, she always had some or other assignment to plan or do.

“I am genuinely s—” Aliya cut her off.

“I can make you a delicious cake if you help.” She looked at her with contempt.

“Chocolate cake with sweet melting chocolate glaze.” She was making expressions, trying her best to bribe her sister.

“Thank you. Allah has given me hands.” Madiah gently kept the Quran down and waved her hand in front of her.

“Exactly! Alhumdulillah. With that, help me with the assignment. Please.” Aliya begged and started nagging her.

Madiha was a nerd during school days but one thing she hated the most was assignments. She loathes it. She was always a C in doing assignments but realizing that it could be a good distraction, she agreed.

“My cake?”

“I know you would eventually agree so here's it,” She placed a mini 10 dhs cupcake on her hand. “Enjoy it.” She sheepishly chuckled and walked out.

“Don't put a margin.” Aliya yelled knowing how much Madiha dislikes not putting a margin and it always triggered her.

“Seriously.” she uttered tsk.

She quickly stood up, put on a nasheed ‘Ya adheeman’ and sat on the floor with all the stuff, including a bag of chips. Assignment felt incomplete without getting her hands oily by food and marks of pen, unknowingly.

“Do you do this purposely,” Aliya asked، pointing at the marks of pen on her white shawl and hand. “To show that you did a work?”

“That's the sign of a hard worker.” Madiha said and grinned, making her sisters roll their eyes.

The maghrib adhan called out. She hushed them who had started arguing about who is good in showing off. She sat by the window and responded to the adhan.

One should stop doing whatever he/she was doing during the Adhaan, even reading the Quran, and repeat the Adhaan with the Moazzin. The person who talks during the Azaan will not be able to say the Kalma-e-shahadat on his/her death bed.

After the magrib prayer, he father came from his work and within an hour they all sat down for the dinner.

“It's been three days…” Her father trailed off, observing her reaction but she was blank.

Her father was debating whether to bring up the topic or not as he wanted to be careful because it was a sensitive topic for his elder daughter.

She sighed. “I did my istikhara.”

Her parents were ecstatic. Her consideration about marriage was a big thing for them, they didn't show it on their face but their relaxed expression gave it away to her.
