"Wanting is sexy," Lauren said over the phone, giggling as she heard Trent scoff in response to her suggestion.
"Waiting on you doesn't feel sexy," he sighed. "It's the very opposite."
"That's because you're looking at it the wrong way," she pointed out. "Plus, if things are that bad, isn't there anyone to fill the void in Liverpool?"
"I don't want anyone to fill the void, I want to fill you," Trent explained in desperation, making Lauren blush although she knew he couldn't see her.
"But I'm working," she smirked.
"Paris is an hour away," Trent countered, his voice low and teasing. "You could be here in no time. Just think about it—dinner, a little wine, and then... well, you know."
"What do I know?" Lauren asked making Trent chuckle.
"You know exactly what I mean," he replied, his tone playful yet suggestive. "But if you need me to spell it out, I'd be more than happy to."
Lauren bit her lip, trying to suppress a smile. "You're quite the charmer, Trent. But I really do have a lot on my plate right now. The show is launching soon, and I can't afford to get distracted."
"Distraction can be good for you," he countered, his voice dropping to a more serious tone. "Sometimes you need to step away from work and just enjoy life. Besides, I promise I'll make it worth your while."
She could almost hear the smirk in his voice, and it made her stomach flutter. "You're quite the salesman, Trent. But what if I show up and you're just a terrible host?"
"I can assure you, I'm an excellent host," Trent replied, his voice smooth and confident. "I've got a great place, good food, and I promise to keep the wine flowing. What more could you want?"
Lauren chuckled, feeling the tension in the air shift slightly. "Okay, but what if I show up and you turn out to be a terrible cook?"
"Then we'll order takeout, and I'll take the blame," he said, his tone light. "I want you and all you've done this entire conversation is make excuses why we can't see one another."
"You want me?" Lauren echoed.
"Really fucking bad," Trent said, his voice dropping to a husky whisper that sent shivers down her spine. "I've been thinking about you a lot lately, and I just want to spend some time together—just us."
Lauren felt her heart race at his admission. "You're not making this easy for me, you know," she said, trying to sound stern but failing miserably.
"Good," he replied, a playful edge to his tone. "I don't want it to be easy. I want you to want it as much as I do."
She bit her lip, feeling the heat rise in her cheeks. "You're really laying it on thick, Trent."
"Only because I mean it," he said, his sincerity cutting through the playful banter. "I know you're busy, but life is too short to keep waiting for the perfect moment. Sometimes you just have to take a leap."
