After many battles, he discovered more people who are Devilmen just like him, so he set out to protect both human and Devilmen alike. However, all had been in vain, for Lucifer, in the form of Ryo Asuka showed the footage of Akira's battles as Devilman, but only told the wrong way of battling the devils, leading humanity to riot against each other. Not even women and children are spared. It even cost the life of Akira's first love, Miki Makimura, making him realize that humans are not that different than devils, losing his humanity and with only one goal: to kill Lucifer.

He led an army of Devilmen to fight him in a battle royale between humans, devils, and Devilmen. After all of humanity was killed, the devils and Devilmen battled it out of what remained of China, with only Lucifer and Akira left. However, Lucifer was stronger than Akira, and he only used 1% of his power, obliterating Akira's bottom half and laying beside him until he died, making Lucifer human, but by then it was too late. God, after seeing what Akira has done, sent his body to the moon to heal and created a new Earth on top of the first Earth, preparing to the day that through what God had created to prevent Lucifer and his army to rise again, with a new powerful force, to the day:
