it's currently 9:20 in the morning and luckily since today is a saturday i have no classes to worry about. i made my way to the local coffee shop near campus to get myself something before starting my day.
it's been two months since my junior year of college at uconn started and so far its been great. my boyfriend that i met in high school, parker is on the mens basketball team, i met my now best friend gabby through a project we got assigned to do together in a class, and things couldn't be better.
at this point i had gotten used to the constant feeling of nausea in my stomach since my junior year of high school. i never knew why it didn't go away, but its just a part of my life now.
i was in line to order my coffee looking at the menu to see if anything else piqued my interest. as i was looking suddenly the front door burst wide open and a loud group of people walked in.
i turned around to see a group of girls who were in full uconn merch walk in. i was confused on who they were until i heard them talking about their upcoming basketball game the following month.
ah, the basketball team, of course. i never knew who they were, nor did i really care because i just don't have an interest in basketball that much, i only attend parkers games because he's my boyfriend and i have to.
i stood in line as they settled down their loud chatter and got in line behind me. they were still laughing and talking but to an acceptable degree of noise.
as the line moved forward i heard something, or someone familiar. my heart dropped as i recognized who it was.
"hey paige, you ready to kick ass this season? you better put that work in!" i froze in line the blood rushing from my face.
this can't be her... right? i swallowed nervously, scared to look back in fear that it would actually be her. hoping it wasn't her, but deep down knowing it really is her.
as the line moved forward i could feel my palms getting sweatier and my heart beating faster. i thought going to uconn states away from minnesota would get rid of my life there.
of course i seemed to have forgotten that paige commited to uconn. i try to avoid bringing attention to myself trying to avoid an awkward interaction with her.
i go up to the counter the team behind me as i order my usual drink.
"hi, can i get a large caramel frappe, extra caramel with almond milk?" i have been ordering this since my middle school days. the only drink that got me through the school day.
as i spoke suddenly all of the commotion from the team stopped. its as if i said something so bizarre, i knew she was looking at me, i could feel her eyes burning into the back of my head. i paid for my drink and quickly moved off to the side to wait for it.
