Snow was starting to fall. Not much, but lightly like a whisper, letting Harper know winter has begun. Christmas was rapidly approaching, only 6 days away. The whole town was lit up with Christmas lights and music was playing in the square. Harper loved to walk around this time of year. It seemed to always calm her and bring her peace.

Approaching a café near the center of town, Harper checked her phone to see a missed call from her father and then a text from him that read, 'Get home now. The neighbors are complaining that we don't have any lights up. I told you to do it yesterday.'

Rolling her eyes, she tucked her phone into her coat pocket and opened the door to the café with a jingle. She scoped the room seeing as she's never been there before. She was overwhelmed with a pumpkin smell and a feeling of comfort. The café was dimly lit, giving a warm feel to the atmosphere. Booths lined the windows and scattered tables were in the center. The counter you'd order from was decorated with Christmas decorations and every employee wore a Santa hat.

Harper approached the counter and decided on a classic hot cocoa with marshmallows. Once her order was placed she shuffled over to an empty booth. Shrugging off her coat, she sat down and heard her phone chime once again.
'If you don't come home N O W, you will suffer consequences. I am your father and you will listen to me. Do you understand?'

Harper was about to reply when a big mug was placed in front of her. Looking up, she was surprised to say the least.

"Jonah."

"Miss Greeson."

"Ha Ha, very funny. Nice place." Harper said sarcastically.

"Well, I needed a job and this place needs more employees for the winter." Jonah replied. Glancing at the counter, he then took a seat across from Harper.

"So what was with the sour face?" Jonah continued.

"What are you talking about?"

"When I came over, you looked like you wanted to throat punch someone."

"Is that option on the table?" Harper commented.

"Definitely not." Jonah chuckled at her response.

"It's just my father, he's... not the kindest of men." Harper then picked up her mug and took a sip.

"Hmm, I see."

"Actually, what time do you get done here?" Harper asked, looking back up.

"That's straight forward of you. In about 30 minutes. Why?"

"First off, no. Second, I need your help putting up Christmas decorations at my house."

"No offense but I'll pass." Jonah said resting his head on his palm.

"Please? It will save me a lot more trouble than it's worth, and plus, you said we needed to hang out more." Harper pleaded.

"You don't need to explain, I was going to regardless. I just wanted to hear you beg for my help. You're normally miss independent." Jonah smiled slyly.

"You're impossible." Harper rolled her eyes, "but thank you."

"Don't thank me yet, I will help you on one condition."

Harper looked nervous, "What's that?"

"You have to come to the New Year's party."

"You're serious?"

"Very."

"Fine."

"Great! I'm going to get back to work now. I'll see you in 25." Jonah's smile didn't leave his face as he walked away.
