Jisoo's POV

Jungkook's knuckles were white on the steering wheel, his jaw clenched tight, his arms were shaking. "You're never going near them again. No matter what Rosé tells you, I don't care it's shopping or something else, you are not going near the family, the family that caused me so much pain and trouble," he said, his voice dangerously low.

My blood ran cold. My head spun.

I stared at him, the tension in the car so thick that it was hard to breathe. Jungkook's anger was like a storm swirling around us.

His words cut deep, "Stay away from Rosé."

"This isn't Rosé's fault," I whispered, trying to make sense of his outburst, "She didn't know this would happen, no one did."

He let out a harsh laugh, his eyes narrowing as he glanced at me briefly, then back to the road, "Not her fault? Jisoo, everything, everything goes wrong when she and her family is around. You just don't see it." His voice was sharp, as if he were fighting to stay in control, but I could feel the resentment seething underneath.

I swallowed, my heart pounding in my chest, "Jungkook, the accident was.....done by someone else.....the attack, it's not by someone who is involved with Rosé, or her family."

His grip on the steering wheel tightened even more, and he shook his head, "You're too trusting. You've always been too trusting of her."

He exhaled, his frustration clear in his words, "Do you know how much damage that family has caused me? How many times they've hurt me, do you have any idea?"

I flinched at the venom in his voice, but I couldn't back down. I know how much disaster Jungkook's dad caused, even after abandoning him. I am not unaware of it. After me and Jungkook started our relationship, the walls he had built around himself slowly began to crumble more. I'll never forget the first time he told me about his dad. And though I know some parts about Jungkook and his dad's relationship from Rosé, hearing the words from him was more painful, more tormenting, more haunting and unbearable. And words in Jungkook's mom's diary made sense.

But the fact is, Rosé is innocent in this all puzzling game. And it is more obvious that Jungkook felt paranoid of Rosé. But it can't change the fact how she still cares about him, and aside of that, Rosé needs me beside her, I know it's hard for her to bear a marriage with a mafia that comes with business benefits.

I took a deep breath, "Rosé isn't like that. She's my friend. Besides, she cares about you, even though she is your step sister. And maybe, she shouldn't be accused for what her family did." My voice wavered with hesitation as I tried to reason with him, but deep down, I knew his pain ran far deeper than just today's events.

Jungkook's eyes flicked toward me, his gaze hard, "She's part of the family, Jisoo. The same people who took everything from me. Don't you get it? This attack.... it's just another sign that they'll always bring more trouble."

I reached out, touching his arm gently, though his muscles were still tense, "I'm sorry for everything that happened to you because of them, but Rosé is different. You know that."

He finally pulled the car to the side of the road and stopped, his head dropping against the steering wheel. He stayed silent for a long moment, breathing heavily. I could feel the weight of everything he was holding back, and my heart ached for him.

"Maybe she's different," he muttered after what felt like forever, "But I can't take any more risks. Not with you." His voice broke slightly, and I realized that beneath all the anger was fear, fear of losing me to the same darkness that had consumed his life.
