Wei Wuxian couldn't remember when he fell asleep, but he awoke in darkness with a sense of wrongness all around him. As he turned over to go back to sleep, he heard a muffled groan that made him sit up to check his surroundings. Looking at the spot next to him, his brain finally processed that Lan Wangji was supposed to be in bed with him.

He leaned over the edge of the bed to see Lan Wanji collapsed on the floor. Sweat beaded the boy's forehead, and gray veins seemed to slither under his pale skin. It was then he realized that before falling asleep, Lan Wangji had not played the songs that were keeping the curse at bay.

In a panic, he rushed out of the Jingshi towards the Hanshi, loudly beating at Lan Xichen's door. "Xichen, Xichen, please help Lan Zhan. He... music needs... please HELP!" A  worried Lan Xichen opened the door, Xiao in hand. He quickly rushed past the crying boy to help his brother.

Lan Xichen ran to his brother's home, not giving a damn about the rules he was breaking, to reach his brother. When he got to the house, he stopped cold in terror, seeing the state of his precious little brother. He barely noticed Wei Wuxian pushing by him to cradle Lan Wanji against his chest while whispering reassurances. Xichen finally jolted into action when his brother-in-law growled at him to hurry up.

Quickly, he started the songs that kept the curse contained, watching as Wei Wuxian ran his fingers through Wangji's hair soothingly. It took an hour of nonstop playing for the marks to recede, allowing Lan Wangji to breathe normally. He quickly fell into an exhausted sleep in his lover's arms.

Wei Wuxian gently picked up Lan Wangji and tucked him in before turning determined eyes towards Lan Xichen. "Teach me. I refuse to feel so useless if anything happens at Lotus Pier before the wedding." Lan Xichen knew he should refuse. These songs were secret clan songs, but his brother's safety was just as important. No! His brother was more important. To hell with the elders.

The rest of the night was spent teaching Wei Wuxian the two songs and how to push spiritual energy into the notes. He had to admit that after spending more time with the boy, he understood what had attracted his brother. Wei Wuxian was a lot like their mother. One couldn't help but be happy around them.

Lan Wangji awoke at five in the morning, like every other morning, but something felt different. He heard Wei Wuxian's bubbling laughter and was forced to look over like a mother to a flame. The scene was strange. His love was curled on the floor, holding his sides laughing while his brother chuckles, poking Wei Wuxian with his Xiao.

For a second, he is painfully jealous of his brother's relationship with his soulmate. He quickly shoves those feelings away. Xichen loves him, and Wei Wuxian has agreed to marry him. He shouldn't doubt them now. Still, he wonders why they are meeting together before anyone is awake.

Actually, he can't even remember coming back to the Jingshi after the talk with his father. A groan escapes his lips when shifting causes unexpected pain. When he opens his eyes again, both men are leaning over him with matching worried expressions. " Lan Zhan! Don't move. I will play for you. Xichen-ge can you get all three of us breakfast? I don't know where to go for that."

His brother nodded, amused, and left the room. Lan Wangji stared, puzzled, as Wei Wuxian grabbed a dizzy and began playing cleansing.?!?! Since when does Wei Wuxian know a secret Lan song, and why? It is flowing with spiritual energy, too. Won't they get in trouble if anyone finds out?

By the time Lan Xichen comes back with three plates of congee and fruits, Lan Wangji is no longer in pain. They all sit at the table, studying Lan Wangji's every move, making him uncomfortable. " Lan Zhan, do you remember anything about last night?" Wei Wuxian looks at him inquisitively, forgoing the no-talking while eating rule.

Lan Wangji shook his head, no, and Wei Wuxian visibly deflated. "It's for the best, I guess. Xichen-ge here is his bag. . I will have to leave in a few hours. Make him stick to whatever training Madam Yu sets up, or he will not win any of his challenges." Lan Wangji's heart broke at the impending separation from his soulmate.

Xichen nodded happily at Wei Wuxian from across the table. "Xichen-ge, are you sure he shouldn't come? Madam Yu is worried about your elders doing something behind your back." Wei Wuxian looked worried, holding his chopsticks in a death grip.

Lan Wangji was aggravated by the men talking in puzzles around him. He slammed his chopsticks on the table, startling them. " This one is able to make his own choices if given information. What happened last night? What plans are being debated?" His brother shifted uncomfortably while Wei Wuxian told him of the night before.

Shame gripped him at his own irresponsibility for worrying about his love. His heart wanted to burst with love when Wei Wuxian admitted to staying up the rest of the night to learn the songs to help him. He took a few minutes to think of his options, but before he could answer, the alarm went off.
