After such a passionate night with his beloved, it was obvious Lan Wangji would want to sleep in. He was still deep in slumber when someone harshly knocked on their door, startling the slumbering Wei Wuxian, who jumped and fell face-first on the floor. Lan Wangji was livid. . It was the day after his wedding, and they had the audacity to interrupt the time he got to spend with his dear husband cuddled to his chest.
He had planned to wake up and watch his lover sleep, to wake him up with gentle kisses, to reassure him that he was still wanted, but no. Some idiot was banging on his door, making his lover hurt himself and waking him up earlier than Lan Wangji had planned. He stood up, helping a dazed Wei Wuxian back to bed, reassuring him everything was alright with sweet kisses, completely ignoring the banging that was getting louder.
Wei Wuxian stared at Lan Wangji sleepily as the man got dressed while he stayed cocooned in the blankets. He could tell his husband was furious for some reason. He was purposely being slower than normal to get ready. This was one of the parts of Lan Wangji he had always liked: the way he was silently a petty jerk, but no one who didn't know could prove it.
Lan Wangji slowly finished getting ready before kissing Wei Wuxian's forehead, telling him to go back to sleep and that he would be back soon. He walked leisurely to the front door of his new home. When he opened the door, he came face to face with some enraged elders who were trying to push their way inside the house. Lan Wangji was not in the mood to allow it. He glared at them without moving out of their way. "My husband is sleeping after our wedding night. You will leave and return at an appropriate hour, or I will cut down the next person who bangs on my door without consideration." Then he slammed the door in their faces.
He was not joking, but just to be sure, he sent a butterfly message to both his father and his brother. The elders had not left, choosing to curse at him through the door but were smart enough not to bang on it again. Lan Wangji only relaxed when he heard his father's furious voice on the other side.
"What is the meaning of this? Have the elders forgotten how to respect the main line of Lan An? It is the day after my son's wedding, and you show my family such disrespect. This is the last warning I give. Don't forget the line of Lan An founded the Lan sect. All of you can be replaced. My sons can not. Now leave before I banish you from the sect for treason."
The spiritual pressure could be felt all the way inside the house. Lan Wangji was in awe of the way his father handled things. Hopefully, he could teach Lan Xichen to be a bit more firm against the council. Looking out the window, he could see the elders scattering like the flies Lan Wangji thought them to be.
He could see his brother looking at their father with the same awe he felt at the way he handled that situation, hanging to every word the man said. "Xichen, a council, is there to advise not to run the sect; think of it as a monarchy. Does the king have to listen to his advisors every time, or do they have to listen to the king? We are in charge of the sect, not them. Come, I am hoping to change some of the rules so my son-in-law can live comfortably in the sect."
Lan Wangji happily made his way back to his room to a sleeping Wei Wuxian. He quickly undid his robes and headpiece before climbing back into bed. Sleepy kisses welcomed him back as Wei Wuxian cuddled into his chest again, falling fast asleep. This was the happiest he had ever felt. His father had stood up for him, his soulmate was sleeping peacefully in his arms, he had gained a sort of mother in Madam Yu, along with new siblings, and he was married to said soulmate.
