Raccoon City — September 29th, 1998
It's raining when Mason hears the commotion outside, the man jerking away from where he's working on patching up the bleeding bite on Marvin's side in spite of knowing that the police lieutenant really only has mere hours left before he succumbs. Walking to the window in the lieutenant's office, he peers down at the street, squinting slightly in an attempt to see through the rain pouring down from the almost black clouds. All he can see at first is fire fighting against the downpour, and a number of infected wandering through debris, but then he can make out a lone figure darting through them, heading towards the station.
"We have company, lieutenant," Mason informs, looking over his shoulder at the pale and sweaty man. "And they're a live one, that's for sure."
Marvin Branagh laughs slightly, straightening in his seat. "Feel free to go greet the rookie, kid. I can barely move right now."
"Are you sure that you're okay for me to leave?"
"Yeah, yeah. Go on. You patched me up good, kid. I'm not gonna bleed out on you."
"That's not what I'm worried about."
"I'm not going to fucking turn yet either." Marvin fixes him with an unyielding look. "Go get the rookie, Mason, and see if you can find Officer Elliot."
Mason rolls his eyes and mock salutes as he steps out the door of the lieutenant's office into the perpetually dark police station crawling with infected, unsheathing his machete as the door latches shut behind him. In the near silence, he can hear the distant hissing and snarling of the former police officers accompanied by the sounds of someone rattling around through draws and boxes in search of anything. Mason wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if the newcomer is looking for more ammo for his handgun, because the infected outside didn't fall all that easily. He knows from experience that they're absolute bastards to kill with a handgun.
