She's coming through. I heard her breathing change. I was nervous, and I was all broken up, too. I spent over 14 hours on the couch watching her sleep. I heard her heart rate increase. I had no idea what to say or if I should even speak. I knew she wouldn't respond well to me. I felt a crazy fear of her. She sat up abruptly, and when she saw me, she quickly started darting her eyes around the bedroom. Of course, I didn't expect her to try to run away. She moved very fast for the state she was in, for a human. She ran into the bathroom, and was about to slam the door behind her. I quickly put my hand in, which she opened with a "Fuck!" I growled, immediately regretting it. We mustn't be aggressive, she's so scared you can feel it all over the room. Khole was as upset as I was. I took a deep breath and slowly started to open the door. The girl in front of me backed away in fright until she hit the wall, down which she rolled and huddled. I stared at her for a moment, not knowing what to say. "I don't know how to start." I got out after a moment of thought. The girl sat rigidly. The whole bathroom was so saturated with the smell of fear that I was beginning to suffocate myself. I took a few steps towards her, but quickly stopped. She began to look around the room sharply, as if searching for something to defend herself with. I just stood there for a moment, wondering how to get to her. Then I sat down so I wouldn't look down on her and make her feel so small and weak. "Please let me go. Derek won't know. Or tell him I died in the cave and that's how you disposed of the body. Please, please I don't want to anymore." She spoke raggedly through unstoppable sobs. It made me want to cry. It stirred up an anger I'd never felt before. I had the urge to hug her and hide her in my arms but I knew I couldn't go near her, at least for now. It made my heart ache to see the state she was in. That fucking bastard. Khole whispered to me. I had to agree with him. It was definitely Derek. No one else would have done this to her. I wanted to touch her, but when I reached out, she flinched in fear. I lowered it back to her body and wondered how to proceed. "My name is Dylan." I said after a moment, hoping to find out her name too. It was hard to tell if she would tell me, but probably not. There was a knock on the door and Luke entered the bedroom, walking cautiously in our direction. I heard her heart and breathing begin to quicken and she gradually began to faint. As she fell unconscious, I carefully picked her up and carried her to the bed. I laid her down and covered her with a blanket up to her chin. Luke and I watched her in silence for a while. "So where's the doctor?" I said gruffly, but I didn't look at Luke. I dared to lightly stroke her cheek. She didn't move. If I hadn't heard her heartbeat I would have thought she was dead. She was so thin, so fragile. She weighed barely 40 kilos. I felt sorry for her. "He should arrive tomorrow." Luke said. I looked at him angrily. "Tomorrow? I'm the Alpha! He's supposed to arrive immediately!! I'm not waiting!" I yelled at him, making my mouth water, but I knew it was useless. It wasn't his fault. I shook myself. "I understand you want to help her now, but the fighting has taken its toll." He said it wryly, patting me gently on the shoulder. "Go to her parents. I want to know everything about her." I looked at him. Luke was visibly nervous. It was clear he didn't want to go to these human creatures. I'm not surprised. But I wanted to get to know her. Together we walked out of the bedroom and I closed the door behind us, inaudibly. We went down to the dining room where Esther was waiting with dinner. She gave me a searching look. I could clearly see so many questions burning her, but she didn't say anything, just handed us our plates of food. "She should eat too." She informed me in a caring tone. "She fell asleep again." "You have to be slow and careful with her. You and I both know patience isn't your strong suit, but you need to get over yourself. We have no idea what the poor girl has been through.". There was a sepulchral silence in the room as we all wondered what had happened to her those three years. I was afraid to think about it. When we finished eating, I walked Luke out, reiterating to him that I needed to know absolutely every detail. I walked into my office to finish the rest that had accumulated during my absence. Still, I couldn't concentrate. I kept thinking about the beautiful, poor creature lying in my bed and how I actually felt about it. A strange thought came to me, which I tried to shut out, but couldn't very well, because it was firmly planted in me. What if she is our soul mate? I turned in my chair and thought about it for a long time by the window. It was already dark when someone knocked on my office door. "Come in." I invited in a tired voice to the person waiting. Luke's excited face appeared in the doorway. I wondered what made him so happy. He closed the door behind him and waved the file in front of my face. "She's a really interesting person." He said enthusiastically, handing me the papers. I began to leaf through them. I found her hobbies and was amazed to discover how sporty she was. Now I felt twice as sorry for her. It must have been terrible for a person this alive to be locked up for three years, but that was probably the least of it. She liked hiking, rock climbing, camping, tandem skydiving .... I looked up from my papers and smiled at Luke with satisfaction. We have so much in common! Khole wondered. We were both very happy. At least for a while, until we realised that she probably wouldn't be interested now. But we were determined to give her her life back, and revive all these hobbies. My mind began to replay all the images of our experiences together that we might collect over time. Do you think our Luna is here? Khole asked me sadly. I wish there was. She is the most beautiful creature I have ever seen in my life. I think so, Khole. We both beamed with joy and smiled with satisfaction. We didn't even notice that Luke had already left.
