I kept running forward and I wasn't going to stop. I was filled with rage. Every few jumps, I'd stutter. I ran past my favourite lake without giving it a second glance and kept running. After a few hours, the anger began to subside. I realized I was close to the pack's territory, where Derek's brother was the Alpha. The two of them hated each other from the bottom of their hearts, and Carl, Derek's brother, also fell under my command as the head Alpha. I sped up as fast as my strength would allow and raced after him. As I ran into their territory, I was hit by the smells of assorted flowers. They were very fond of them here, especially the herbs. Several wolves bristled as I ran, and were about to follow me before they realized who I was. Then they lowered their ears and bowed their heads emphatically. I ran to the headquarters, and stopped. I had to stand still for a moment to stop my paws from shaking, and to catch my breath. Gradually, the wolves began to gather around, and finally Carl came out. He had a nervous look on his face, so it probably got to him by now what his brother had done. I changed. In a flash, a little girl ran up to me and handed me clean clothes. All out of breath, I bent down to her, took it from her and thanked her. She returned my thanks with a shy smile. I quickly changed out of my dirty one and threw it in the trash. I made my way to meet Carl, who also took a few steps in my direction. "Alpha Dylan." He said in a firm voice, and held out his hand. We shook hands and I motioned him to the chairs. We sat down, and Carl nervously folded his hands in his lap. The maid brought us coffee, water, and snacks. Although I was thirsty after running for several hours, I drank just a little, because if I kicked it up, it would be a sign of weakness. Maybe they wouldn't even care that much, but I wanted to show strength. Setting my glass down, I looked piercingly at Carl and started to take a breath to speak. "I know what that bastard did, but you can't want to punish me or my pack for it." Carl beat me to it, looking around sympathetically at the onlookers. I turned the corner up. "Of course not, and I don't intend to." I said matter-of-factly as Carl looked at me in disbelief. "I just came to let you know that I'm about to start a war with your brother." A few startled cries and gasps echoed around, whereupon there was a sepulchral silence. Only a few rapidly beating hearts could be heard. Carl was obviously confused and nervous. "I understand it's terrible what he did to that human girl, but it's not a reason for war if..." trying to calm me down from the bloodshed because he didn't want to risk the lives of his soldiers. Anger surged through me, I jumped to my feet and cut him off mid-sentence. "You don't know what he did to her! Do you know what she had to go through?! It's a miracle she's alive! Even some werewolves couldn't survive that, and she's only human. Actually, she's no ordinary human. She's Luna! My Luna and your future queen!! Do you know what that means?! It means I'm going to destroy your brother and his entire pack, and I'm going to do it in such a way that not even a speck of dust will be left behind!" I shouted at him. My screams, along with the growling, resembled the thunder in a great storm. Carl gulped idly and there was a deafening silence. I noticed that some wolves ran for cover from my rage, some huddled on the ground, and others burst into tears. Trying to breathe out my anger so I wouldn't hurt anyone, I took a deep breath. Carl held out his hands in a defensive gesture. "Dylan..." He addressed me softly, nervous and regretful. I could tell that he was scared, but that he was angry himself. He stood up "I'm sorry about what happened to your mate and I swear that if you go to war, we'll go with you." He said frostily, bowing his head slightly in a gesture of respect and humility. Khol and I both shuddered when he called her our mate. I nodded my head sharply, turning my back to him and transforming into a wolf in a leap. I quickly ran for home. I ran through the trio again, wanting to be with my Luna as soon as possible. I stopped by the lake to get a drink. At that moment, certain little things began to occur to me, but they would certainly not be little things in the future. Shit, we're screwed. Cursed Khole. Well, he was right. It was only now that I realized that Evelyn, which is my Luna's name according to the file, hadn't had the faintest idea that werewolves existed until recently. Let alone what it means to be someone's soulmate, Luna, or to be marked. Of course there are many other things, but these are the most important to me right now. I sat down and watched the water from the waterfall splash against the surface. I shook my head and looked at my reflection. We'll figure that out later. Right now, we need to heal her. Khol and I agreed. I got wind of it. My eyes widened as I scanned the area. It was strange, but I could smell the scent of my mate. I sprinted to the house. I looked from side to side, turning in confused circles. I ran into the house and immediately headed for my bedroom. Esther crossed my path. She put her wrinkled hand on my chest to slow me down. I wanted to push her away, and start running to make sure my Luna was safe, but when I saw the plea in her eyes, I stopped. "What's wrong Esther?" the urgency in my tone made it hard for her to hear. "Dylan, when you ran off, I was checking on her and she was asleep. But when I went to check on her three hours ago, she was nowhere to be found." My heart dropped to my stomach at that moment and a huge lump formed in my throat. I had to lean against the wall and breathe deeply. "How... how could this... happen?! How many guards are on patrol here?!" I was still panting, but I was angry. Esther looked at me with tears in her eyes. She started to apologize and beg me not to punish anyone. "I can't be angry with you, it's not your fault. But someone has to take responsibility." I held her shoulders and looked into her tearful eyes. I let go and walked around her. I made my way downstairs towards the house when I smelled Luke's scent. I see Esther already told you. We've been looking everywhere, but we lost her scent at the lake. He told me via wolf communication So we had a chance to get to her while we were resting, but we left her instead?! The Khole in me howled. I quickly handed out assignments and embarked on a search mission. We had been looking for her for eight hours, but she was nowhere to be found. Where could she have gone in such a state? What if she's lying dying somewhere?! Khole was absolutely horrified and kept freaking out. I had to restrain him, which I did to calm myself. Suddenly there was a howl. It was one of the trackers. We all ran in his direction. We were heading for the lake. When I got there, I saw several wolves standing on the shore of the lake, staring into the water with their mouths open. I looked in the same direction, and my paws couldn't hold me. I was looking at the lifeless body of my Luna floating freely on the surface, face down. I picked myself up and quickly jumped in after her. In the process of swimming, I transformed into a human, and soon I was pulling her to shore. I pulled her up and immediately began a heart massage. "Call Lewis and have him move all the necessary medical equipment into my house as quickly as possible. Have the room ready before I get there with her. Luke! Run for the car and get it here!" I barked at my men and watched as they quickly carried out my commands. We can't lose her. She's our sun. It's our moon. She is us. The Khole in me grieved. "You'll be all right. I will save you Evelyn, everything will be okay." I repeated it over and over like a mantra. There was no point in trying to take her and run home. As a human, I would be slow and couldn't continue to massage her heart. After several interminable minutes, Luke finally arrived with the jeep. We quickly loaded her into the back seat and drove as fast as the terrain would allow us to the house. I continued to massage my heart until the car stopped. Dr. Lewis was already waiting at the door, running ahead of me to show me the way to the newly encumbered room. It was like being in a hospital. There were machines everywhere. I noticed that they were still working on it and more were being brought in. I laid her on the bed and watched the doctor work quickly to save her life. A hysterical Esther came running up to me and started pulling on my arm. "Come on darling, you don't need to be there. Let Lewis work, you're not going to help her anyway." she uttered in a squeaky voice, raggedly through her sobs. How is it possible that I'm suddenly so weak? After all, I'm the most feared, strictest, and authoritative werewolf far and wide. So how is it that suddenly everyone is telling me what to do, and I'm doing it! I'm the Alpha! I'm the MAIN Alpha and I'm supposed to be respected. Eventually, Esther managed to get me out of my room and into my office. There I collapsed into a chair, put my face in my hands and burst into tears.
