Heart drop

The minutes dragged by like hours. Every creak of the school's foundation, every distant sound, made Minho and Jisung flinch. Their breathing had evened out somewhat, but the adrenaline hadn't worn off. They were sitting shoulder to shoulder, silent except for the occasional glance—unsure if they were drawing comfort from each other or just sharing their fear.

Outside, the school was a war zone. The gunman could still be out there, lurking around any corner. Every sound sent new waves of panic crashing over them.

Suddenly, a new noise cut through the stillness—footsteps in the hallway, moving slowly, deliberately. The click of hard-soled shoes against linoleum echoed down the corridor, growing louder with each passing second.

Minho stiffened, his heart slamming against his ribcage. He could feel Jisung beside him tense, his breath catching audibly in his throat.

"Is that—" Jisung whispered, but Minho held up a hand, silencing him.

The footsteps stopped just outside their door.

Time froze. Minho and Jisung exchanged a wide-eyed look, every nerve in their bodies on high alert. Whoever was out there—they were right on the other side of the door.

A faint click sounded as the doorknob was tested, rattling gently against the lock.

Minho felt his stomach drop. His pulse pounded in his ears, drowning out everything else. He knew the lock wasn't strong enough—just a simple latch. If someone really wanted in, it wouldn't stop them for long.

Jisung's hand brushed against Minho's—whether by accident or not, Minho didn't know, but he grabbed it without hesitation. They clung to each other, fingers interlocked, both too afraid to let go.

Then came the worst sound of all.

The scrape of a chair being dragged away from the barricade.

Someone's coming in.

Minho shot Jisung a desperate look, panic welling in his chest. They could hear the subtle shift of the door as the weight holding it shut was slowly removed.

"Do we run?" Jisung whispered, his voice a shaky breath against Minho's ear.

"No time," Minho whispered back, his grip tightening around Jisung's hand.

The door creaked open an inch.

Then two.

They held their breath as the gap widened, dread pooling in the pit of their stomachs.

And just as the door was about to fully open—

---

BANG!

The deafening crack of a gunshot exploded through the hallway.

Minho and Jisung ducked instinctively, their hands still clasped together. The door flew open, slamming against the wall. A shadow filled the doorway—a figure stepping into the room.

Minho's breath hitched.

And then—

"Minho? Jisung?"

A familiar voice.

Both boys looked up, hearts still racing, as the figure stepped into the light.

It was Felix

His face was pale, his chest heaving as if he'd just run a marathon. His eyes were wild with fear, darting between them.

"You need to come with me. Now."

"What's going on?" Jisung asked, his voice shaky.

Felix swallowed hard, his expression grim. "There's more than one shooter."
