You were y/n. Just another girl from a small town in the middle of nowhere. You weren't very popular in school, or very good at sports. As much as you were a happy person, it was mainly an act. You were a mess, to say the least. You didn't have many friends, or a super interesting life. Until one day....
Rain poured outside, thundering as if it were the end of the world, every now and then interrupted by a shock of lightning. It came off as loud white noise on the roof of the local library. The kind of summery aesthetic nights that make you want to light a candle and curl up with a novel.
Those were y/ns favorite kind of nights.
She sat in a small chair next to the window, a novel in her lap. Her thoughts wouldn't stop drifting. That's the way of the world lately. She was a great student, but she didn't know how. She spent her classes daydreaming about things to come. Ways to get away from her home. Maybe...maybe even finding a good boyfriend. She shook her head, trying to free herself from the thoughts.
The novel was a mystery, which should've enticed her, but instead it just instilled a sense of dread. A feeling that something terrible was about to happen. But it was just the book...right? She shivered once, subconsciously glancing behind her. She wasn't a cautious person, but something felt wrong.
The rain continued to get harder, and after about twenty minutes, y/n decided it was time to head home, before the whole building collapsed. Without turning to look behind her, she set the novel in her backpack and flicked her y/h/c hair off of her shoulder. "Good night, Mrs. Meier!" She sang as she started to exit. However something made her stop dead in her tracks. "Mrs. Meier?"
Behind the librarian's desk, multiple books were being strewn about, as if some kind of monster was looking through them. "Are you okay?" She questioned, stepping closer. That proved to be the wrong thing to do.
Her beloved librarian turned around, a nasty scowl on her face. Something was off about her. Mrs. Meier didn't have golden eyes like that, did she?
She lurched, with a high pitched screech at y/n, barely missing her head. She blew instead straight through a potted plant, spilling its contents onto the blue patterned carpet. "Where is it?" Y/n flinched at her voice. Instead of the sweet mellifluous ring it normally had, it was eerie. Like some kind of...
Monster.....
She'd read about them in the books. She knew them all. Greek, Roman, Norse, Chinese. Bigger, smaller and the ones in between. Oh, she KNEW monsters well. She had some of her own.
But that still didn't explain why her librarian had morphed into some kind of monster, She racked her brain for ideas. It was definitely Greek, but she couldn't quite think of the name, like a dream that you can't quite place.
"Where is the camp?" She shrieked once more, flying into a window with a loud CLANG! Glass rained down on all sides of the demonic woman, a cold gust of wind rushing into the room. The sounds of thunder and heavy rain seemed ten times amplified.
"What do you mean camp?" y/n, paused, right in the middle of picking up a large copy of Harry Potter to throw at her. She threw it, hitting the woman in the eye and causing a little bit of golden blood to leak from the corner of her eye. Ichor, she recalled.
"Dirty half-blood! Where are the others? Where is the camp?" She cursed as she followed her into the back of the building. She continued back, holding her with a thick dictionary, but she knew all it would take was one slip and... bad things would happen. She'd read it in all of the myths.
Something hard knocked her in the back, causing her to yelp. It was the sharp edge of one of the bookshelves. Little cuts and scrapes littered her arms at this point, but as soon as she felt hot blood leaking from her back, she knew it was bad.
Worse than that, Mrs. Meier was now basically standing over her, using y/n's moment of weakness to her advantage. She looked up into her golden eyes and gulped once, realizing there was little to nothing she could do at this point, she was doomed.
She quickly squeezed her eyes shut, bracing herself for excruciating pain, but it never came. When she opened her eyes, Her librarian was lying peacefully on the ground, eyes closed and hands folded over an ichor-stained childrens' book. On the floor in front of her, a small pile of dust sat, as if it had been there the whole time. Her eyes widened as she realized what had happened. Mrs. Meier had been possessed by an...an...
"An eidolon." She whispered, trying to crouch on her knees to see better. She flinched cowering into the corner as much as she could, as two people approached her. Both of them looked to be teenage girls around her age. The first girl had wavy blonde hair, tucked into a ponytail behind her head. She had eyes of steely gray, that immediately made her want to hide herself. The next girl had kinder eyes, though she couldn't decide what color they were. She had choppy brown hair in a braid down the side of her head, and she looked a little bit more approachable than the blonde.
Still, she couldn't trust them. She had a hard time trusting people that she did know. She tried to tuck herself as far into the corner as she could, pulling her shirt taught behind her to try and stop the bleeding on her back. The girl with the choppy brown hair knelt in front of her. Her eyes looked kind, but y/n couldn't be sure. "Hi, I'm Piper," She said. "and this is Annabeth." She gestured to the blonde. She smiled, but it still scared her a bit. Annabeth knelt in front of her as well, trying her best to look warmer. "Can you tell me what happened?" Annabeth asked in a soft mellow voice.
"It's-it's kind of a long story." Y/n finally admitted after a couple minutes of running through different answers. "That's alright. We'll probably have a long ride ahead of us to talk."
"What do you mean?"
She waved off her concern like it was nothing. Piper spoke up, scooting a tad bit closer, causing y/n to give a little flinch. "It's alright. We aren't gonna hurt you. You're safe with us." She gave a friendly smile, kaleidoscopic eyes sparkling. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
Not wanting to get into anything too deep, or reveal herself vulnerable to two girls she barely knew, she shook her head. Neither girl was convinced. "It's okay. We aren't gonna hurt you." She repeated. "We don't have to do that yet though. Come on. We need to leave."
"What?" y/n exclaims, standing up with the girls and wincing slightly. Annabeth turns back to her. "Listen. We don't have much time. That thing was an eidolon. Where there's one, there could be more. We need to get you out of here, okay? We promise you can trust us, and we promise we'll let your family know."
y/n nodded along, not wanting to tell them that she didn't really have a family, she just followed them out of the building, cautiously. "Where are we going?"
She helped her into this thing that looked suspiciously like a war chariot, trying to shield herself from the pounding rain. "Basically," She began as they got ready to take off. "We're taking you to Camp Half-Blood."
a/n: Wow, first chapter! Hey guys! Here's a little intro. This is gonna be a reader x Leo Valdez, ofc, and it is not my first fanfiction. I'm sorry for the horrible writing. I prefer the first person, and tend to switch between them. Sorry for any errors. Let me introduce myself real quick. What's up, I'm going to be going by C8 in this book. I'm actually a teenage published author, but I won't share the name of my book here. I'm Leo simp, and I LOVE angst. I'm going to do my best to tone it down, but if you guys like it, just ask because so do I! I also have a PJO fan account at pjofan.chb8 on Tiktok. Thank you all!!!
