First day of University. Every parents dream for their child, and every kids nightmare growing up. The campus of the IUSTEM university was as grand as it was prestigious.

I was in my dorm room, and my parents as well as my twin brother were helping me unpack my life, or more accurately, the three of us were unpacking while my brother Cyan lay on my newly made bed eating a greasy burger and even greasier chicken and fries.

On my white sheets.

My roommate had not arrived yet, so I would have to wait a while. The room was very grand, spacious and elegant, I would definitely give them that. The room was 'divided' into two, and I had chosen the one to the right of the large french window opposite the side where the beds where. On both sides, there was a single bed with a bedside table and lamp 🛋️ on it. On each side there was a mahogany desk, an office chair {the ones that spin}, and mahogany bookshelf on the same wall the beds were pressed against.

On each side was a door a few feet away from the desk, shelf and chair, and each door led to a walk in closet —a fairly spacious but not large or too big one. Good thing I had bought tons of new clothes upon receiving my acceptance letter and had cast my old things away, so thankfully my clothes all fit.

The bathroom was just beyond another door inside the walk in closet, so I guess we both had our own space. Literally. The only thing we shared was the balcony beyond the french window.

I filled my shelf with my new novels, my notebooks, a few small potted plants here and there, some anime figurines and my files. Of course it didn't get full; my things had only managed to fill it a little over halfway.

On my desk I placed my gray Samsung PC and my tablet {also a Samsung}, then my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Everyone in my family loved the Apple brand, but I was going to die a Samsung fan. I even had the branded Samsung merch to prove it.

I placed my black satchel on the desk and against the shelf.

My mother was unpacking the heaps of clothes I had never worn before —even the ones from Victoria's secret —while dad hung my fairy lights along my wall, just the length of the bed. Under them I stuck my anime posters of Jiujitsu Kaisen, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken, Bastard {the anime}, The Ragnarok {loved that one soo much}, EDEN'S ZERO, plus...The disastrous life of Saiki K.

I had a lot more which I put in a box atop my bookshelf.

My bed had no headboard. Instead, dad had attached to it pieces of wood to form a large square/triangle. In the space it bordered, I hung up a life sized poster of my favourite anime character of all time, Dark Schneider.

"Are we done?" Michelangelo asked around a mouthful of chicken and fries while still slurping down soda..

If only his fan girls could see him like this, although I have a good guess that it would just give them something else to fawn over.

They say love is blind.

I say love has perfect eyesight. It's infatuation that's blind.

"Yes," I said. "We—"  I gestured to mom, dad and myself "–are finished."

"Great!" He enthused. "That was boring."

I blinked at him. Ever since what happened, I'd had no enthusiasm to get into our playful arguments like we used to.

I shook my head and said nothing.

After stepping out of the room, I locked it with my key 🗝️ and we left the girls dorms. After leaving the school grounds all together, we drove to a nearby park where we would have our picnic. I set the blanket down, and Cyan was quick to flop onto it.

"Hey!" He exclaimed when dad kicked him off it.

"Hoggers aren't allowed," dad justified.

Cyan and I were literally the opposite genders of each other. I looked like the female version of him, and he looked like the male version of me. We both had thick auburn hair, except mine was long and stopped just below my behind while Cyan kept his short and cutting only the sides of his hair.

We had inherited our mother's mismatched eye colours –gray and gold. Mine were big and round while Cyan's were almond shaped. To top it off, we had the kind of thick eyebrows that could catapult a model to international fame, long lashes, pale skin, and rosy red lips.

Cyan was tall, lean yet still muscular, whilst I had a slender yet athletic build gained through years of gymnastics, swimming and track running.

"Cyan, take good care of your sister," mom said tearfully. "Scarlett, take care of your brother as well. You're all you've got here, so support each other."

"Your mother and I love you," dad said in his, 'I'm holding back my tears voice.' "We are all proud of you and how far you've come. I know it's been hard for both of you, but please don't give up on your dreams."

"Thanks dad," we said in unison. "We love you both."

They pulled us into a hug, and it felt nice. Cyan had tears in his eyes when we pulled away, but I was just sad. I wasn't even sure I had any more tears left to shed anymore.

Then again, Cyan had always been a momma's boy, no matter how independent he seemed on the outside. In fact, all three of my brothers were. I was the only one that took after our father and I understood him a lot, and on rare occasions even better than mom.

We packed everything back up into the car before getting in and driving back to the university.

"Call us every day," mom said after we left the car.

"And we'll video call every Friday. Don't forget to read your bibles too, and remember that God is our refuge and strength, our fortress in times of storm."

"We won't forget mom!"

"We love you, and we know you'll make us proud," said dad in a thick voice.

"The future awaits you with open arms..." he began.

"So embrace it with all and who that you are," Cyan and I finished.

"Bye now," they said, shooing us inside.

"Bye."

"See you later."

Our parents watched us as we entered the campus grounds, gripping onto each other as sobs racked our bodies.

The past was behind me now, and so were the painful memories.

Or... that's what I thought.

For no matter how far you run,
No matter how far you go.
Every nightmare of yours shall follow
For the past never leaves you alone.

Hello there!

This is the first chapter of my new book, Unrequited love. The first is Stolen Fate, which you can read if you want to.

So, most of the things in this book will be from my imagination, though I'm not sure if IUSTEM is an actual university or not. How do you like our twins? Cyan Ballencia and Scarlett Ballencia.

Is there anybody in the audience who digs anime like I do? If so, please let me know and maybe recommend some to me.

Yours faithfully,
Valhala1983.

Danko!
