Hardin

Living in New York being on the streets for so long, you get used to every little thing waking you up. I can hear when Tessa gets up and decides to take a shower. I can hear when the water stops and the music from the speaker which was playing lightly cuts off. I can hear when she steps out of her room and turns on the light to illuminate the kitchen. I can smell blueberries and bacon in the air making me hungry but I don't open my eyes to see. I can hear her opening cabinets then closing them again and again. Tessa eats for a minute before I can hear her coming towards me and kneeling down in front of my face, Her sweet scent filling my nose, I want to open my eyes just to see what she is doing but I still won't. I'll keep my facade for a few more minutes. She eventually gets back up and I think she sets something down on the table before I can hear her leaving out of the door. I open my eyes then.

The morning sun is the first thing I see when I open them. She opened the curtains. I sit my body up right and look towards the kitchen. Like I thought the counter had Pancakes, bacon and eggs on a paper plate which I'm guessing is for me and there is another one right beside it but the plate is smaller, which is her daughters for when she comes home. I take my eyes off of the food and look down next to me to find a note.

Good Morning Hardin, I went to go get my daughter from my friends. I've made breakfast for you and it's on the counter, hopefully you enjoy!

Tessa

She is really sweet. So far from what I'm smelling its delicious already but who knows about the taste. I get up from the couch and go to the kitchen to start eating, Since the plate is already made I just need something to wash it down with, I look inside her fridge. I see water, Her daughter's fruit juice and some tea. I'll take the water for now. I grab it out the fridge and pour me a glass. I sit down to start eating. I take the first bite of the pancakes and when I tell you my mouth exploded with joy I'm not kidding, these are great, tied with Ms.Celeste who pancakes I had the other day but unfortunately no one is better than my moms from when I was a little boy, but these cut damn close. I continue to devour the food in front of me, the bacon and eggs equally as good. I can honestly get used to this.

Yesterday went better than expected. I was completely fine with walking away and living on the streets again, I honestly didn't Mind. I just didn't want to make her uncomfortable but she welcomed me in with opened arms. Sleeping on the couch is tuff but that's only since I'm a fucking giraffe, it's better than nothing so I'll take it gladly. Night one was a success. We talked, we laugh, we were awkward. It was perfect for me at least.

I'm so in my thoughts that I don't realize the door opening and two figures stand there watching me eating. I slowly turn my head and nervously smile before hopping out of my seat to great them. Tessa smiles at me walking forward but the little girl makes her way behind her mother. I stop my movement. She looks at me from behind her mother's coat and Tessa slowly kneels down to talk to her.

"Don't be afraid baby" She says to her and the small child looks at her before looking at me. "This is Hardin baby, Mommy's friend, can you say hi? " She ask her and she lowly whispers a "Hi" While looking down.

I move closer to them only a few inches and her eyes shoots up again at the movement. I kneel down a couple of feet away. "Hi sweetheart" I whisper. She gasp and her eyes stare at mine. Green to blue like her mother's. She slowly moves away from her mother till she is not behind her anymore.

"See isn't he nice, he called you sweetheart" Tessa says and gives her daughter a lovely smile and she gives one right back, she looks exactly like a mini copy of her. It makes me smile, they make me smile. Tessa turns around from her daughter to look at me.

"Did you enjoy the food" She says and I nod I head.

"It was delicious, thank you Tessa" I say.

"It was no problem" She responds.
