SOMETHING INSIDE THE two changed that night. rowan knew what had happened after a moment of deep thought as she sat in the bed of george's. and she wasn't at all disappointed. although they didn't know that the other remembered, they had never felt so full of warmth.
their stolen glances, the 'accidental' knee touching, the smiles. it was as though the pair were in their honeymoon phase without even saying a word.
arthur kept his promise, keeping his lips sealed. mostly because he was afraid of what george would do to him if he spread the secret. george decided against the part where he mentioned the two's shared night and kept it to himself—although he was killing himself inside.
what would she say? does she remember? would she be horrified?
this is why he opted out. he couldn't face the sheer embarrassment of rowan's knowledge—and it was eating him alive.
the group's last week in croatia was full of what they'd expect: going out, drinking, and coming back to the hotel bar for round two's. and it was their dream life.
they all sat around a small outdoor lounge, a circular fireplace in the middle of a round placement of benches laced with knitted blankets and cushions. rowan sat in the middle of one of the benches, george sat next to her left, and grace to her right.
"i'm going to get another drink," rowan stumbled slightly as she stood up. george's hands raised quickly, hovering over her waist to prevent a fall straight into the fire. she didn't notice it, but sure did everyone else.
she skipped to elliot, her newfound 'friend,' who would serve her drinks with a small discount. despite george's concerns over rowan talking to elliot, the many drinks she had previously that night had made all her thoughts go blank.
as she got to the stool which she claimed for the duration of the three weeks, elliot's grin grew, and he walked right over to her.
"i was wondering when i would see you."
"well, here i am," she slurred, her elbows coming up to the counter to prop herself up on.
his smirk grew heavily, as his eyebrows raised, asking her what drinks she wanted without speaking.
