Chapter 4: Lugia's Wrath
The summit of Mt. Silver stretched before Ash, its jagged peaks cutting into the stormy sky like the teeth of some ancient beast. The cold winds howled, battering against him and Eevee as they approached the final stretch of the mountain. Above them, Lugia’s massive form circled the peak, its crimson eyes locked onto Ash. The once-majestic creature was now an avatar of destruction, twisted by Necrozma’s dark influence.
Ash’s heart pounded in his chest. His breath was shallow, both from the thin air at this altitude and the sheer terror of what lay before him. This wasn’t like any battle he had faced before. Lugia had once been an ally, a protector, but now it was a force of nature driven by something far more sinister.
He gripped the glowing crystal the mysterious figure had given him. The fragment of Necrozma’s prism pulsed with a faint light, and Ash could feel its strange energy radiating through his body. This was his only chance to break Lugia free from the darkness.
“Eevee,” Ash said, his voice steady despite the fear gnawing at him, “we can’t back down now.”
Eevee growled in response, its eyes glowing with the same fierce determination as Ash’s. The small Pokémon had proven to be a loyal companion through all this, and Ash couldn’t help but feel a swell of gratitude for its presence. But Eevee was no match for a Legendary Pokémon like Lugia. This battle would come down to Ash’s ability to use the crystal and his connection to the Pokémon he had once bonded with.
With a deafening roar, Lugia swooped down, its massive wings beating against the air with the force of a hurricane. Ash stumbled back, barely able to keep his footing as the gusts tore at him. Lugia’s eyes flared with dark energy, and without warning, it unleashed a powerful Aeroblast straight at him.
“Move, Eevee!” Ash shouted.
The blast ripped through the ground where they had been standing, sending debris flying into the air. Ash rolled to the side, clutching the crystal tightly in his hand. The situation was worse than he had anticipated—Lugia’s power, amplified by Necrozma’s corruption, was overwhelming.
“Lugia!” Ash shouted, his voice carrying through the storm. “I know this isn’t you! You’re being controlled by Necrozma’s darkness! You’ve fought to protect the world before, and I know you can do it again!”
Lugia didn’t respond. Instead, it roared again, its body surging with dark energy. The storm above intensified, lightning crackling through the clouds as the Legendary Pokémon prepared another attack.
Ash’s mind raced. He had to get close enough to use the crystal, but Lugia was far too powerful to approach head-on. He needed a plan, and fast.
He looked down at Eevee. “We need to distract it, give me an opening to get close. Do you think you can handle that?”
Eevee barked in agreement, its fur sparking with energy as it charged forward. Ash knew it was a long shot, but it was the only option they had.
Eevee darted around the battlefield, using its speed to avoid Lugia’s attacks. It unleashed a series of quick, sharp Thunderbolts, trying to keep Lugia’s focus away from Ash. The bolts barely fazed the Legendary Pokémon, but they were enough to buy Ash the time he needed.
With Lugia momentarily distracted, Ash took a deep breath and began his approach. The crystal in his hand glowed brighter as he got closer to Lugia, its energy reacting to the dark aura surrounding the Legendary. Ash’s heart pounded in his chest—this was it. If he could get close enough, he might be able to break Necrozma’s hold.
Suddenly, Lugia’s attention snapped back to Ash. With a terrifying speed, it launched itself toward him, its eyes blazing with fury. Ash barely had time to react as Lugia slammed into the ground in front of him, the force of the impact knocking him off his feet. He tumbled backward, the crystal slipping from his grasp.
“No!” Ash shouted, scrambling to his feet as Lugia loomed over him.
The crystal lay just out of reach, but before Ash could make a move, Lugia raised one of its massive wings, preparing to strike him down.
Eevee, seeing its trainer in danger, let out a fierce cry and charged at Lugia, leaping into the air. It released a powerful Iron Tail, aiming for Lugia’s exposed side. The attack landed with a flash of sparks, and while it didn’t do much damage, it was enough to momentarily distract the Legendary.
Ash didn’t waste the opportunity. He lunged forward, grabbing the crystal just as Lugia’s wing came crashing down where he had been standing. With a surge of adrenaline, Ash thrust the glowing fragment toward Lugia.
The crystal flared with brilliant light as it connected with Lugia’s body. For a brief moment, time seemed to stand still. The dark aura around Lugia flickered, and Ash could feel the oppressive presence of Necrozma’s corruption fighting back against the crystal’s power.
“Come on, Lugia!” Ash shouted, pouring every ounce of his will into the crystal. “Fight it! I know you’re stronger than this!”
Lugia let out a deafening roar, its entire body convulsing as the dark energy surged around it. The storm above intensified, lightning flashing in the sky as the battle between the light of the crystal and the darkness of Necrozma’s influence reached its peak.
For a moment, Ash thought he had failed. The darkness seemed too strong, too overwhelming. But then, something shifted.
Lugia’s eyes, once glowing red with rage, flickered back to their normal silver-blue. The dark aura around its body began to dissipate, and the oppressive energy that had filled the air started to lift.
Ash stepped back, breathing heavily, as Lugia let out a soft, weary cry. It lowered its massive head, looking at Ash with a mixture of exhaustion and gratitude.
“You did it,” Ash whispered, his voice filled with relief. “You’re free.”
Eevee trotted up beside him, its tail wagging tiredly. Ash knelt down, petting the small Pokémon. “You were amazing, Eevee. We couldn’t have done this without you.”
Lugia let out a low, rumbling sound, as if acknowledging Ash’s words. The storm clouds began to part, and for the first time since Ash had started his journey up the mountain, the sky above was clear.
But the battle wasn’t over yet. This was just the beginning.
Ash looked up at Lugia, his expression determined. “We need to stop Necrozma. It’s corrupted more than just you, and Giovanni is using it to take control of the world.”
Lugia nodded slowly, as if understanding. Ash could feel the bond between them starting to return, stronger than ever. With Lugia’s help, he knew he had a chance to fight back against the darkness that had taken so much from him.
But as Ash prepared to leave the mountain, another thought crossed his mind. If Necrozma’s influence had reached this far, who else had it corrupted? And how many more Legendary Pokémon were under its control?
He clenched the crystal in his hand, feeling its power pulsing with the remnants of Necrozma’s darkness. There were more battles ahead, more challenges to face. But Ash wasn’t alone anymore. He had Eevee, and now, he had Lugia by his side.
As they descended from the mountain, Ash couldn’t help but feel a renewed sense of hope. He had taken his first step toward reclaiming his world, and no matter what Necrozma or Giovanni threw at him next, he was ready.
