The cool air of the Shibuya winter seeped through the gaps of the windows that covered the Shinonome household. Akito was fast asleep, dreaming about gobbling down delicious pancakes topped with every topping you could imagine. Syrup, whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, you name it.
Unfortunately, this awesome dream was interrupted by the shouting of Akito's older sister, Ena.
"AKITO YOU IDIOT!!!" cried Ena. Her screaming shook the entire house. Akito was suddenly shot out of bed by the sound of Ena's screeching voice and looked like he had just seen a ghost.
"Wha...whatt??? Ena, what is i-" Akito murmured,
"AKITO DON'T PLAY DUMB WITH ME. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID."
Ena kept screaming about this certain act of mischief Akito had apparently committed. Akito was much too tired to discuss whatever the hell he had done, but he was quite angry at his sister for waking him up from his perfect dream with such a fuss.
"Ena, just get out of my room..." Akito said annoyed.
"I WON'T UNTIL YOU OWN UP TO YOUR OWN MISTAKES."
Ena then grabbed Akito by his shirt and pulled him up to her face.
"You've lied about so many things Akito..."
Ena grabbed something out of her pocket that looked like a letter. Not just any letter, a love letter. Covered in little hearts. Akito's heart dropped as he realized what Ena was holding. His eyes widened tremendously as he looked at the letter longer and longer.
"WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET THIS???? THIS WASN'T MEANT FOR YOU IT WAS MEANT FOR TO- I MEAN SOMEONE SPECIAL. STOP GOING THROUGH MY STUFF."
Akito snatched the letter away from Ena's grasp and blushed as he hid the letter under his pillow. He hid his face in his hands and was a bright red color.
"Get out..." Akito muffled. Ena was on the verge of laughter when it finally came out of her mouth.
"I knew you had a secret crush! It was so obvious! Who else would you be texting late at night, kicking your feet like a little girl~!"
"SHUSH!!!"
Akito was too embarrassed to say anything more. He shooed Ena out of his room and slammed the door in her face. Still giggling, she skipped back to her room with a wide grin on her face.
"God DAMN IT! I thought I hid this so well...at least she didn't figure out who it was for...She would've killed me."
The truth was that Akito was in fact in love with someone, just someone you wouldn't expect. Someone he's known forever, but you still wouldn't expect. Japan isn't the most inclusive country when it comes to homosexuality. A lot of queers are closeted in fear of being mocked and disregarded. That's why they keep silent. This is sadly Akito's case. He's never asked his parents their opinion on homosexuality, but he was too scared to in fear of having to hide himself. He doesn't exclusively like women, he also likes men. Men are his preference. He's a bisexual man desperately in love with his childhood best friend, Toya Aoyagi. They've known each other since as far back as they can remember. Yet Akito would never admit that willingly. Toya was a perfect fit for him. The syrup to his pancakes. He's never truly had the confidence to ask him out, but he was considering it fondly for the past week. Today was supposed to be the day he would muster up the courage to ask him out on a romantic date, but his sister Ena completely shattered his confidence. But she would unintentionally help him regain it back in a way Akito would never expect.
