With my legs crossed, my fingers run through the dents in the wood of the arm rest. The smooth oak chair was flawless beside this imperfection. The old train station clock's pendulum rocks back and forth in the quiet room, breaking the silence that never was. The sounds of other children and teens that I heard before is absent, blocked by the wooden walls. As the door suddenly opens, I'm broken out of my thought and turn to see a very tall middle aged woman in a black dress suit, and a ruby red emulate shaped like a V hangs from her neck.
"I'm Victoria Veil. Welcome to my home." The woman greats. "I understand there was a... Let's say an 'incident'." I stiffen in my seat. Her heavy eyes seem to be almost fully black as she mentions it. She moved across the room to the leather chair and big dark oak desk. "It's alright Ember, I promise with some time here with our psychiatrists and other youth, you'll feel like this was your original home, not your adopted one."
Even though it was an uncomfortable topic for me to talk about, she was very open about the idea of what happened. As if it was an every day thing.

After taking with Victoria about the rules of the house, she got up from her desk and walked me to my assigned dorm area. As I walk through the large door, the engraving at the top catches my eye. " Ας σου οποίους ζουν μέσα σε αυτά τα τείχη υποβάλουν οι ίδιοι με τις πυρκαγιές που τόσο πολλοί φοβούνται ". Keeping up with her, she walls to room F6 and in see a label with my name on the door. Victoria pushes the door open and waves me in.
"I trust you will make yourself at home for you can consider this your new room. All that remained of your belongings have been placed in reasonable places but you can rearrange them as you please." She smiles a real smile and I realize how pretty of a woman she is. "Ember I mean it when I say you'll feel at home here, almost everyone here is kind and pleasant and I know you are too. Everything you need to find your way around the house it's either on the back of your door or set on your desk. Oh, for the times you leave, here's a key."
Victoria stats to walk out the door and I smile as in close the for being her, listening to her heels click down the floor and I sink down next to the door. I close my eyes for a minute and let out a sigh as I reopen them. The clock on the desk read 5:37 p.m. and I realize it never donned on me to look at the room because the light were still off. Searching the walls next to the door, I find the multi light switch. Flipping all the lights on, I realize the room is bigger then the room I had before, like 4 times bigger, and I had a big room before. It was shaped like a T with the door being in the vertical line of it. The room's door was in the left corner and from its point of view, the large king bed was along the far right wall with a nightstand next to it. It was a deep red with black pillows and the elephant I used to sleep with in the old house in front of them. Must of been a keepsake from my old life Victoria talked about. Walking in, I see a desk that is about 5-6 feet long with drawers and some pictures of my old friends and family. Next to that, I notice a small fridge that I open to find coffees, sodas, milk, water, and even an assortment of alcoholic beverages. From the view of the door, you see a large couch that is presses to the wall between the two hallways. To the right of the couch is a short hallway to the bathroom. The way down the hall, is a large walk in closet I open to find some clothing but not much. I continue to the bathroom and my jaw drops. The vanity itself was that of girls dreams, with a large mirror and makeup that fit my skin color with fragrances of plenty. Behind is a large tub with jets and seats and a walk-in shower that has shower heads that come from every angle. Both have different soaps and the type of shampoo and conditioners I use. Walking out, I look ahead to see the dining and cooking area. Large glass top stoves and oven below. A microwave sites on the counter next to the fridge and a basket labeled "To help cope with stress". Walking to the bin, I see it's filled with treats that I would usually have on my period. (Popcorn, different chocolates, different frostings, Wonka sweet candies, smarties, Resses peanut butter candy, ect. You get my jist.) I smile and shuffle through the bin as I look for other sweets and I stop when I see it. I pull the small box out and tears threaten to sting my eyes. As I open the box to be sure, I see the hand written recipes and the flood gates open in my eyes. I clutch my father's grandmother's recipe to my chest and stumble my way to my bed. I grab my elephant and hold the objects closer as I curl into a ball. Sobbing, I shove my head into the stuffed animal and remember everything I will never have again.
And then there was a knock at the door.
