The barn door creaked as the Morphers entered, the familiar scent of hay and wood grounding them after the adrenaline-fueled encounter at the Nexus headquarters. The moonlight streamed through the gaps in the wooden slats, casting long shadows that danced on the floor. Cassie motioned for everyone to gather around the makeshift table made from old crates, her heart still racing from the earlier chaos.
Once settled, a heavy silence enveloped the group. Alex began moving his arm around, expecting to feel pain from the impact of the Drakkon beam, but to his surprise, he felt perfectly fine. He looked at the others, confusion mingling with relief on his face. Maya, noticing his expression, rushed to his side. "Are you sure you're okay?" she asked, concern lacing her voice.
As the rest of the team gathered around, they all shared a moment of disbelief. Cassie stepped forward with a reassuring smile. "When you're injured in morph and come back to human form, the DNA corrects itself. It's one of the many benefits of morphing; it gives us healing properties when injured."
Relief washed over them, but the weight of the Nexus threat lingered in the air as they prepared to strategize their next moves.
As the Morphers settled into the barn, a familiar silhouette cut through the twilight. Tobias glided in, landing gracefully on a nearby beam, his red-tailed hawk feathers ruffling in the cool evening breeze. His presence brought an immediate sense of comfort, a reminder of the bonds they shared with the original Animorphs.
With a keen eye, Tobias surveyed the group, his sharp instincts alert to any signs of distress. "Are you all okay?" he inquired, his tone a blend of concern and care as he scanned each face for any hint of injury or fear.
Alex, still feeling the remnants of their recent encounter, reassured him. "I'm fine. No injuries here," he said, flexing his arms to demonstrate. The others echoed similar sentiments, their camaraderie bolstering their spirits.
Tobias nodded, satisfied. "Good. You need to be in top form for what's coming." He shifted slightly, the weight of his experience evident in his gaze. "We're in this together, and we need to stick close. The Nexus won't back down easily."
With the group reaffirmed, the atmosphere began to shift. The Morphers felt the strength of their unity, knowing that with both Cassie and Tobias as their allies, they were prepared to face whatever challenges lay ahead. It was a team effort, and together, they felt ready to confront the Nexus head-on.
The Morphers gathered around the makeshift table once more, the weight of their mission hanging heavy in the air. Cassie, feeling the responsibility of leadership, laid out their strategy for the upcoming recon mission. The soft rustle of hay and the distant sounds of the night created an atmosphere filled with urgency and determination.
"We need to investigate the increased activity around the Nexus headquarters," Cassie began, her eyes scanning the map spread out before them. "But we must be careful. Chapman may now believe that we are a threat and could target us directly."
Maya nodded, her expression serious. "So we should avoid any unnecessary confrontations. If we're spotted, it could put everyone in danger."
Cassie shook her head. "I don't feel they know who you are; I feel that the threat is directed to the original Animorph team." She hesitated, her thoughts racing. After the Yeerk War, she had assumed all remnants of the Yeerk forces had been freed.
As the group considered their options, Cassie's brow furrowed with concern. She realized that if Chapman suspected the original Animorphs were involved, he might come for Jake, Marco, and herself. "I need to reach out to Jake and Marco myself," she said, determination creeping into her voice.
