The next morning seemed uneventful. Nothing was scheduled for today. Thank God.
America was sitting in his room playing Fortnite. He would occasionally mutter to himself as he played.
A chirp could be heard from the aviary. "What?" he called out as if his pet eagle would respond. The American country sighed. He was pretty close to a win. "In a sec," he yelled.
He lost the game. He let out a low growl as the victor danced over where his body was. If only these humans knew who they were messing with!
America stood up and walked over to the aviary. Freedom was standing near the door, chirping.
He patted her on the head and walked into the kitchen. Freedom followed him. Her talons could be heard clicking on the floor
America opened the freezer and pulled out a salmon from a plastic bag. He threw it at her and she caught it in her beak.
He smiled. "Is that what you wanted?"
Freedom chirped softly.America reached for his phone in his pocket and looked at some notifications. There was an email from UN.
He grumbled to himself and opened the notification. America read it to himself. There was to be a quick meeting in an hour. So much for doing nothing all day. He wanted a break before he was forced to go to the reunion.
America picked up his eagle and gently sat her back in the aviary. He then put on better clothes. He was simply wearing an old T-shirt and baggy sweatpants.
Once he put on more appealing clothing, he headed out the door. America glanced at the house next to him. Did he feel a little bad about what he did to the much younger country? No. He couldn't. He deserved it anyway...
Once America made it to the Dome, he looked around. Cuba, China, North Korea, and Russia were talking to each other. He kept his eyes on Russia... the way he stood and the way he talked, were very attractive to America. It couldn't be though. They were enemies.
More countries filed in the Dome. The meeting was to start soon. Hopefully, it went better than yesterday's meeting.
The LCs were not to be present. That was one huge positive.
UN strutted to his pedestal and addressed everyone. "Listen. The other organizations and I have made a decision. As a few of you know. Years ago, Worldora held an annual race." UN looked around. The countries listened patiently.
UN continued. "This race was known as the Winged Race. Countries that had the ability to fly competed."
America was actually interested. Were they actually going to bring the race back?
"We have decided to bring them back!" UN smiled and flapped his wings.
The countries cheered and talked amongst themselves.
"Now. There have been a couple of changes. Countries that were born with wings are only allowed to compete. Not countries that can summon them."
A couple of countries grumbled to themselves. America didn't care. Finally some entertainment.
Kazakhstan laughed. "You might as well give me the reward. Everyone knows I'm the most powerful flier."
UN sighed but didn't press him on. "If anyone has any grievances, please schedule a meeting with me and we'll discuss it. The race will occur three months from now. You are all dismissed."
The countries left the Dome in a big crowd. They all went back to enjoying their Friday.
America looked through the crowd. He needed to talk to someone. He scanned the crowd and found them. Poland.
Poland was a winged country. They used to have pearly white wings. Now, they were almost reduced to nothing. A slave during World War II, they suffered. The Third Reich ripped off their right wing and damaged the left. They would never be able to fly again.
"Poland!" America called out. They looked at him and smiled softly. Germany was by their side.
"What's up?" they asked.
"Well. I was just wondering how you feel. I mean, the Winged Race. Wow, it's a pretty big deal for winged countries."
Germany glared at him. "What are you doing?" he asked sharply.
America backed away. "Nothing, nothing."
"Niemcy, it's ok," Poland smiled. "I'm actually excited. I can't wait but I am a little upset about it as well. I try not to look at the negatives, however."
America blinked. "Huh. Yeah..." America patted Poland on the back. "It will be ok." he looked at Germany.
Germany, just barely, showed his teeth. America did the same. Germany growled softly. America growled louder.
America lunged towards Germany to threaten him. Poland put their selves in front of the two aggressive countries. "Enough! Germany, America, separate."
Germany and America listened.
"Fine! I'll just go," America snapped. He stormed off. He hung his head. He was just trying to be nice. As America stormed through the crowd, he barreled into another country. America heard the other country grunt deeply.
"I am so so-" America gasped. The country he has bumped into was Russia
