- angst, 400+ words, gender neutral reader

Damian Wayne imagine that he annoys you (he corrects you, contradicts you, argues with you etc.) just to get on your nerves but he can't stand it if you do it to him. chaos ensues.

*at training* "remember to point your toes Damian"

*In school* "hmm, *looking at the latest exams*, it took you 2 minutes extra to finish in comparison to last time"

you chide him for being so lazy but he claims he's just "uninterested"

*at dinner* "no you're wrong I disagree because of *XYZ* reasons"

*in the car, in a moment of peace* "don't slouch Damian! sit up straight!"

(^ this one just sends him over the edge)

you peck and pester at his every "imperfection". You must admit, to yourself, it is exhausting always being aware of other's shortcomings and then having to do so for yourself to remove any of their own ammunition. You've had to get very creative with your insults. You've had to educate yourself on how certain things should properly be done. You're tired, but you're also fulfilled. You're finally getting him back for all the time before. You feel like you're high and mighty, on a throne made of needles.

Damian had enough a long time ago and wants you to stop, but that means having to confront the real reason you're acting like this. he knows. he refuses to accept that you are About That Life and continues his behavior anyway, thinking you will give up eventually. You do not- meaning that you two are at each other's throats 24/7 and anyone else in the room must deal with it also. The tension is suffocating and a heavy cloud follows you two wherever you go. People, friends, and family have started avoiding you. Any intervention has proven unsuccessful and the only hope given to end this mess is "Ill stop when they stop" as both of you point fingers at the other. Each digit like a dagger. Each room emptied the minute you both share the space. You both realize how petty this is starting to become, but the baggage continues to drag behind impeding any progress.

You figure it is about time Damian experience what consequences are. He made this mess, now he may lay in it.

Damian knows he should do better, he knows he should have been kinder, but sometimes his sharp tongue moves before his brain does. He says things that are hurtful. In private, he feels ashamed of this habit but he does not feel remorse after all this back-and-forth. Why should he try to fix things when you're not trying?
