Prologue

I don't know what it feels like to be truly free.

I don't know why my parents are so strict with me. Is it because I'm their only daughter, or because they know that I know their true identity? Well, I don't mind if I'm from a family of mafias.

I don't understand why they're keeping me locked in my room. Last year, they were very fine with me going out. After I graduated college, they suddenly became strict, and even took away my technology. I can't help but feel resentful because of how they're acting.

Besides not being used to them treating me like this, there's also something in my mind that's urging me to disobey my parents.

But I know that I can't do that.

I can't disobey them. I love them from the bottom of my heart and soul. Disobeying them means being a traitor of a family.

"Seraphina, what are you thinking?" I didn't notice my mother enter because I was lost in thought.

She sat beside me and sniffed my hair, something she always does to remind me that she loves me and will protect me no matter what. And I feel assured.

"Just thinking, mom" I plainly said. I don't have energy right now. Also, there's a lot of questions in my head that keeps on flashing.

"Hmm?" It's a sign. She want me to talk, and so I did.

"What's wrong mom? Why you keep on locking me here in my room?" I tried to look at her, but quickly averted my gaze when I saw her eyes darkening again.

You should just close your mouth, Seraphina!

"We've talked already about this honey, right?" I nodded, my head is till on bow. "I hope you understand"

She stood up and started to walk out, but stopped at the doorway to speak. And what she said next brought a wave of confusion to my head.

"You'll understand all of this, my child, because you'll have no choice but to. All the bad stuff they're involved in is almost over. I won't let anything bad happen to you." And then she's gone of sight.

Couldn't they just explain everything to me? They're making this so much harder. My head's about to explode from thinking, when the door to my room swung open, revealing my closest cousin, Adriana.

Glad she's here.

"Hey, looked so much stress huh?" She laughed sweetly.

"Laughing like they're not being so controllable to you, huh?" I fired back.

She just rolled her eyes at me and threw herself onto my bed. I even scolded her to act calmly, because someone might walk in and report us for her indecent behavior.

"What are you doing here, anyway?" Tanong ko ng makabawi.

"I heard Mom and Dad were coming here, so I insisted on coming along. I told them I wanted to visit you too"

"Good thing they agreed"

"They wouldn't have, if it weren't for Mom whispering something. But I have a bad feeling about that whisper" She really has a strong intuition.

Nagkatitigan kami ng may tatlong beses kaming narinig na katok sa pintuan ko at nagturuan pa kung sino ang magbubukas pero sa huli ay ako parin naman dahil natalo ako sa bato-bato pick namin.
