It had been a long few weeks. After I announced my pregnancy, the guys had become even more protective of me. Any time I went anywhere, Jey or one of the others had to be close by.
Today was my second doctor's appointment and Jey was going to be going with me. Since I could only bring one person, Evie was going to be spending the afternoon at the park with her uncles
As soon as they showed up, Evie went running into their arms. I hand Jon her backpack with snacks and an extra change of clothes just in case.
"What's all this?" He asks
"Extra clothes in case she has an accident or gets dirty and some snacks.Please take care of her and don't let her get hurt,"
"Babe you worry too much, she'll be fine," Josh says
"I just don't want her to get hurt,"
"Babe she's a kid, she's going to fall and get hurt,"
I roll my eyes, "I'm aware of that Joshua, but a scraped knee is different than a broken leg,"
"She's not going to break a leg,"
I could shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen, but there's nobody else I trust more than the six of them with her.
I hug Evie tightly, "be safe and have fun, I'll see you later okay?"
"I will mommy,"
Josh and I left the house and he drove to the womens clinic. "She's gonna be fine baby, I promise," He says, gently squeezing my hand.
Less than two hours later that promise was broken. We had just finished up at the women's clinic when Josh got a call from his brother to tell him Evie had fallen off of the monkey bars and broken her arm.
As soon as we arrive at the Emergency room, I run inside. My heart drops when I saw Evie sitting in Jacobs lap with tears coming down her face that was also scratched up.
I crouch down in front of her, gently giving her a hug and kiss on the cheek "my poor baby," I say quietly
"Hi mommy," she says sadly
"They're going to put her cast on in a bit," Jon says
"What happened?" I ask
"She wanted to try the monkey bars by herself and I let her. She got half way across before her hand slipped and she fell," Sefa says
"Don't be mad mommy," Evie says
"I'm not mad sweetheart, I promise,"
"It's my fault anyway. I should have stood closer to her," Jon says
"I'm not blaming anyone Jon. It was an accident. The important thing is you guys got her to the emergency room and got her checked out,"
"I knew it was probably broken by the way she screamed when she landed on it," Jacob says
I wipe the tears from her eyes, "You are one strong little princess. Now you're even more like me. We both broke our arms at 4 years old," I say
"I didn't know that," Josh says
I nod, "I broke one at 4 and the other one at 8. Ironically I fell off a swing set both times,"
"Alright Evelyn we're ready for you sweetheart," the nurse says
I hold her good hand as we walk into the exam room. Josh picks her up and sits her on the table. As soon as they removed the sling and I saw for the first time how bad it really was I started to tear up.
"Hey she's okay babe, don't cry," Josh wraps his arms around me and hugs me.
"Why is mommy sad?" Evie asks
"Because mommy doesn't like seeing you hurt," he says.
They start to wrap her arms up and she starts to cry a little bit. Josh holds her hand as they finish putting the cast on. When they put pressure on the bottom to flatten it out, she screams in pain. Josh tries his best to soothe her but not much was helping
"All done," the nurse says as they put her sling back on. Josh picks her up and holds her in his arms, trying to get her to calm down.
The nurse hands us some medicine to help manage the pain and we walk back out into the waiting area
"How is she doing?" Jacob asks
"She cried and screamed as they put her cast on," I say
"I know what will make her feel better," Jon says
"What's that?"
"Food. We never got to take her to lunch,"
"What do you think Evie? Would food cheer you up " I ask her
She shakes her head, "I just want daddy snuggles"
"Well you can have daddy snuggles all afternoon. But you still have to eat princess. If you want we can get your favorite,"
"Really babe McDonald's again?" Josh says
"I'm just trying to cheer her up Josh. You can get something different,"
"How about we go home and just doordash it, then everyone gets what they want," he suggests
"Fine with me, you can order it on the way home, I'll drive,"
"No I'll drive, you can sit back there with her,"
"Or you let us finish our day out with her and you guys can start preparing for the twins," Jon says
"What do you want Evie?" I ask her. When she doesn't answer, I look over and see that she's sound asleep on Josh's shoulder. "Looks like we're taking her home to rest,"
"She probably needs it, she's had a bad day,"
If she's feeling up to visitors you guys can come over tomorrow and hang out with her,"
Josh drives us home as I sit in the back with her. Once we get home, he carries her to her room and lays her in our bed. He lays next to her and snuggles with her as we try to figure out what we wanted for lunch. As I scroll through doordash looking for something that sounded good, I heard snoring coming from his side of the bed and look over to see them both sound asleep.
I lay down with them and snuggle close to Evie. It didn't take long before I was starting to fall asleep. I wrapped my arm protectively around her waist before falling asleep
