Anklets , too noisy to fill the first awkward meet,

I look up to find you staring.

Bound to happen, I thought,

When I remembered the day we held  each other's hands.

After you left me,

To save me, to save our child and to save every other man and woman's  beloved,

I still wait for your letter to reach me,

to assure me that you are safe at the borders.

I remember the very last letter you sent me,

Almost a week ago, saying you'd leave for a mission.

Not too long, but I feel the connection fade.

Today, I stand here to honor you ,

Staring at the flag you held last,

at the uniform you left at camp,

at the watch I gifted you on our anniversary,

Like the way you stared  me the very first time I saw you,

With a gaze filled with love and  affection

And pride.
