The power of boredom

My dearest friend,

do you remember when you were bored last time? I don't mean that kind of boredom when you scroll social media or lose will to do anything while work is waiting for you. I mean that kind of boredom when you just sit on your bed, look around your room and think what to do. Or think about anything else. It seems like a waste of time, but it's one of the best things for your growth. (In childhood it probably happened many times)

For example, I used to play videogames a lot. They were so time-consuming, I didn't even have time to finish all quests. I didn't have time to think about anything else, there were so many things to do in there. And same applies for any other distraction including social media or Netflix. When there is only a little free time, they immediately fill that.

Try to put your phone aside. I know, I know, it sounds like cliché and everyone is saying that, right? But trust me, you will be surprised how many ideas will come to your mind. Don't even think about your phone, focus on them and if they sound like something you can do right now, then do it. If you have an idea about story, imagine it in your mind and write it. If you used to draw when you were young, but nowadays you haven't for years, then draw something. You don't have to be good at it to enjoy it, it doesn't have to look good. In time you will improve anyways or find out it's not for you and try something else.

If your schedule is full, allow yourself at least a little time for boredom. Sometimes it only takes to be not able to fall asleep and you may reach this state of mind. And if you are already creating something, good job, keep going! I'm proud of you!

Yes, we have to turn our brain off time to time and that's totally okay, just it can't take over our lives. By the way, I started to write these letters when I was sick home. My mind was clear, I didn't care about school, so I started. And not only this project, but so much more. It takes a little discipline, but don't force yourself to do something, make yourself do nothing and that emptiness will make you do it effortlessly. Why?

When you force yourself to do something, most likely you will fall into watching content thinking "this is the last video and then I go". But guess what. You will find yourself two hours later with no work done. Rather just sit down, relax, do nothing and wait. Sooner or later, you will start doing something anyways, only avoid bad habits.

I won't distract you more though, it's your turn to be bored.

Thanks a lot for reading and see ya soon!

- Love, Lumexia
