"So, you're meeting his girl best friend this weekend, huh?" I glance over at my best friend Gigi, who's sitting on my bed, supposedly 'helping me pack'.
"Yeah, I guess."
"Woah, why the hostility?" She giggles and looks up from her phone at the tone in my voice. I didn't mean to sound so worked up.
"I don't know, G. He says she's harmless, but, I mean, come on, when has the girl best friend ever been totally harmless? Apparently they've been insanely close since, like, the womb. She's like a member of the family. His mom loves her, his dad loves her, the girls idolize her. I don't know, I guess I'm dreading it a little bit." I sigh and try to shake it off.
"Come on, you know Cam loves you. There's nothing to dread."
"I know, you're right, but it doesn't help this growing pit in my stomach. I mean, if she's such a big part of his life, why haven't I met her yet? We've been together for almost a year now, and he talks about her all of the time. Does she not want to meet me? Because that in and of itself would be a red flag. And what if she hates me? Do you think he'd break up with me if she asked him to? It's nerve wracking, G. I'm breaking a sweat just thinking about it."
She stands up from her spot on the bed and wraps me in a hug. "Maddie, he loves you. It doesn't matter what she thinks of you, she isn't your boyfriend. And I agree that it's a little weird that he hasn't introduced you yet, but really, if her opinion on you mattered that much to him, don't you think he would've gotten it by now?"
"Yeah, you're right."
"I always am, babe. Let's go for Starbucks, I'm tired of packing."
"Oh, I'm sure you are. You've been working so hard."
