I stood outside her door, the cold air of the night wrapping around me like an unwelcome embrace. The faint glow of the streetlights flickered against the peeling paint of the door, and the muffled sounds of a television hummed from somewhere inside her home. I wanted to knock, to see her, to talk to her-but my hand hovered just inches away, frozen in hesitation.

The faint scent of damp wood mixed with the metallic tang of the rain lingering in the air after a downpour. It wasn't unpleasant, but it was grounding-pulling me deeper into the moment, making my inaction feel even more real. The world around me felt muted, the usual city noise fading to a low murmur. My focus was entirely on the door, as though the entire universe existed only in this small patch of space.

I let out a slow, heavy sigh, the sound dissipating into the stillness. I could feel the faint hum of energy from the thread connecting us-a constant reminder of the weight I carried. It wasn't painful, but it was there, always pulling, always reminding me of what I was meant to do. The irony of my role as her supposed guardian wasn't lost on me.

Sure, I could snap my fingers and appear in her room, bypassing the need for this human gesture of knocking. But wouldn't that just scare her more? She'd see me as an intruder, a specter, and not the celestial being I was meant to be.

I imagined the awkwardness of it.
Hi, Y/N. I'm Taehyun, also known as Taelion Hyuntael, an angel of fortune. I'm here to ensure you die tethered to a string of bad luck, all thanks to me.

The thought made me wince, my wings twitching uncomfortably at my sides, though invisible to mortal eyes. It wasn't a conversation anyone could take well, least of all someone like her-someone already battered by the cruel twists of fate.

The air felt heavy, almost oppressive, as if the universe itself was waiting for me to make a move. My heart-if angels could even call it that-felt conflicted. I didn't belong here, standing on the threshold of a life that was slipping away. And yet, I couldn't leave.

I glanced at the window beside her door. The dim light inside illuminated the edges of the curtain, and for a brief moment, I considered peering through it. But even that felt invasive. She deserved her privacy, even from someone like me.

Another sigh escaped me. Maybe this was a bad idea. Maybe I should walk away, let the thread do what it was designed to do, and wait for her arrival in the afterlife. If she made it to heaven-and I hoped she would-it would be easier to explain everything there.

But something held me here, tethering me to this moment. Was it guilt? Sympathy? Or something else I couldn't quite name? The weight in my chest grew heavier as I thought about her-her fiery determination, her shaky hands, the way she tried so hard to hold it all together despite the chaos around her.

The world around me seemed to blur as my thoughts consumed me. The soft drip of water from a nearby gutter echoed in the silence, and the faint smell of rain lingered in the air, mingling with the earthy scent of the ground beneath my feet. Everything felt raw and real, like the universe was alive and watching.

I took one step closer to the door and raised my hand again, my knuckles grazing the cold wood. But I didn't knock. Instead, I stood there, my breath mingling with the night air, wrestling with the decision I already knew I wouldn't make.

I was about to turn away, resigned to leave, when the door creaked open. It was as if the universe itself couldn't resist intervening, pulling me back into a situation I wasn't ready to face. The man who stood there-tall, with sharp eyes that narrowed the moment he saw me-let out an exaggerated, exasperated sigh. The kind that didn't need words to convey his annoyance.

"You again," he muttered, stepping forward and crossing his arms. "Go away. Don't come back." His voice was low but forceful, clearly trying to avoid drawing the attention of others in the house.
